The Boston Red Sox<\/a> completed the sweep of the Detroit Tigers<\/a> with a 4\u20130 win on Wednesday night at Comerica Park. Sonny Gray<\/a><\/strong> earned the win with five scoreless innings while allowing four hits and two walks. Jack Flaherty<\/strong><\/a> took the loss while allowing four runs, two of them earned, in his five innings.<\/p>\n The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning. Reigning AL Gold Glove winner Wilyer Abreu<\/strong><\/a> made a sliding catch to prevent any runs from scoring.<\/p>\n After 1-2-3 innings in the first two frames, Caleb Durbin<\/strong><\/a> came up to bat with runners on first and second. He smacked a double down the left field line to score Marcelo Mayer<\/strong><\/a> and break the scoreless tie. Willson Contreras<\/strong><\/a> came up two hitters later to deliver a sacrifice fly and drive in Carlos Narvaez<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Narvaez, with runners on first and second with two outs, lined a ground ball to Colt Keith<\/strong><\/a> at third base. The ball went right under Keith’s glove into left field, scoring Masataka Yoshida<\/strong><\/a> and Ceddanne Rafaela<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n After a couple quiet innings, the Red Sox managed a bases loaded jam purely by coercing walks from Drew Anderson<\/strong><\/a>. Brant Hurter<\/strong><\/a> came in for the Tigers and got Abreu and Trev0r Story<\/strong><\/a> out to end the inning unscathed.<\/p>\n The Red Sox bullpen locked down, with Tyler Samaniego<\/strong><\/a>, Zack Kelly<\/strong><\/a> and Greg Weissert<\/strong><\/a> locking down the Tigers\u2019 lineup.<\/p>\n Flaherty threw 25 pitches in the first two innings while striking out the five of the six hitters he faced. Flaherty threw 71 pitches over the next three innings while scoring four in the process. Although only forcing one walk, they hit the ball hard while making Flaherty throw a lot of pitches.<\/p>\n The Red Sox struck out 15 times this game, which is the 14th time they’ve struck out 10 or more times in a game this season. This is ttied for the most times fanned in a game this season. Only rivaled by their March 28th loss to the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Red Sox will head back to Fenway Park for a three-game home series against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a>.
