ARLINGTON, Texas (May 11) \u2013 The Texas Rangers<\/a> dropped a low-scoring affair to the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>, 1\u20130, Monday night. The big knock of the evening came from Geraldo Perdomo<\/a><\/strong>, who hit an RBI double in the first inning. The Rangers will aim to knot the series Tuesday night with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Right-hander Zac Gallen<\/a><\/strong> (1\u20133, 4.70 ERA) will toe the slab for the Diamondbacks while lefty MacKenzie Gore<\/a><\/strong> (2\u20133, 5.18 ERA) will get the ball for the Rangers.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks got on the board immediately in the top of the first. The Rangers’ scheduled starting pitcher was right-hander Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong>, but he was a late scratch due to left side tightness, so righty Jakob Junis<\/a><\/strong> filled in as their opener. Corbin Carroll<\/a><\/strong> lined a one-out double to left as many fans were still trying to find their seats. On deck was Perdomo, who scored Carroll with a double of his own to right.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks took advantage of the Rangers’ decision to start Junis over Eovaldi. Perdomo’s RBI double in the first was all they needed to prevail Monday. The quick manner in which they scored would have taken them four or five innings at least to do against Eovaldi in most scenarios. Junis has been effective for the Rangers this year, but the Diamondbacks found a hole, albeit a small one, in his armor.<\/p>\n The issue for the Diamondbacks on Monday was the Rangers’ bullpen. They didn’t allow any runs and stranded seven runners on base. The Diamondbacks went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position. When your opponent makes a last-minute change like the Rangers did, ideally you want to do what you can to exploit that.<\/p>\n Rangers righty Jakob Junis made his first major league start since September 25, 2024 against the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> as a member of the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>. He took the loss, bringing his record to 0\u20131 on the year. Junis allowed the Diamondbacks’ only run across 2 2\/3 innings as an opener. His line was 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 31 pitches\/22 strikes. Monday marked his longest appearance of the season by both innings and pitches thrown. He had been scoreless in seven straight appearances since April 19 prior to Monday. It was also the first time that Junis has given up two or more extra-base hits in an outing this year. He still boasts a 1.89 ERA in 2026.<\/p>\n Diamondbacks right-hander Michael Soroka<\/a> <\/strong>made his eighth start of the season Monday and stymied the Rangers bats to the tune of 6 1\/3 scoreless frames. His record now sits at 5\u20132 with a 3.53 ERA. Soroka’s final line was 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 89 pitches\/59 strikes, his longest scoreless outing since August 10, 2019 against the Miami Marlins<\/a> as a member of the Atlanta Braves<\/a>. Monday was the fifth outing of six or more frames in the career of the seven-year veteran.<\/p>\n After allowing hits to each of the first two batters he faced, Soroka held the Rangers 0-for-their-next-14 until Kyle Higashioka<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s single leading off the sixth. He faced the minimum from the second through fifth innings. Diamondbacks starters have now logged seven straight starts of six or more innings. Their rotation has allowed one or fewer runs in six of the last seven games and owns a 1.27 ERA in that span, best in the majors.<\/p>\n The save went to closer Paul Sewald<\/a><\/strong>, his ninth of the season. He tossed a spotless ninth inning with one strikeout.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/strong><\/a> gave his thoughts on his team\u2019s offensive struggles on Monday. \u201cThe last couple of days were good, today not so great,\u201d he remarked. \u201cThere were a lot of ground balls that unfortunately found gloves. (Michael) Soroka was good. We had scoring chances in the first three innings, all with less than two outs, and couldn\u2019t push a run across.
