Seven scoreless innings from George Kirby<\/strong><\/a> led the Seattle Mariners<\/a> to a 3\u20131 victory over the host Houston Astros<\/a> Monday night. A home run from Julio Rodriguez<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and RBI singles from Dominic Canzone<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and Cole Young<\/strong><\/a><\/span> powered the Mariners to the win.<\/p>\n The Astros collected nine hits, two more than the Mariners, but stranded multiple runners throughout the night while striking out 14 times against Mariners pitching. Kirby controlled the game across seven scoreless innings, allowing nine hits while preventing the Astros from producing timely offense.<\/span><\/p>\n The Mariners struck first, doing in the top of the second inning. Randy Arozarena<\/strong><\/a> recorded the first baserunner with a single before Luke Raley<\/strong><\/a> drew a walk against Astros starter Peter Lambert<\/strong><\/a>. Eduard Bazardo<\/a><\/strong> struck out three consecutive hitters in the eighth inning after issuing a walk, and closer Andr\u00e9s Mu\u00f1oz<\/a><\/strong> ended the game in the ninth by striking out Alvarez on a changeup.<\/span><\/p>\n Isaac Paredes Continued Producing at the Plate<\/b><\/p>\n Paredes led the Astros offensively with a three-hit performance and drove in the Astros\u2019 lone run in the fifth inning. The third baseman consistently generated hard contact throughout the night and also flashed defensive ability with multiple difficult plays at third base.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite allowing three runs across the first three innings, Lambert recovered effectively and gave the Astros valuable length. The right-hander retired 13 of the final 15 hitters he faced and struck out multiple Mariners hitters with an effective changeup and breaking ball combination.<\/span><\/p>\n The Astros defense prevented the Mariners from extending the lead further. Cam Smith<\/a><\/strong> made a sliding catch in right field during the first inning. Paredes opened the game with a diving stop on Brenden Donovan. Zach Cole later added a sliding grab in left during the ninth inning.<\/span><\/p>\n Kirby controlled the strike zone from the opening inning. The Mariners starter struck out seven Astros hitters by mixing an effective sweeper with precise fastball command. He held the Astros to 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, preventing them from generating sustained offensive pressure.<\/span><\/p>\n The middle of the lineup struggled against swing-and-miss pitches throughout the game. Alvarez struck out three times, Christian Walker struck out twice, and the Astros totaled 14 strikeouts overall.<\/span><\/p>\n The Astros threatened multiple times during the opening innings but failed to capitalize. Altuve and Paredes each recorded early singles, yet Kirby escaped without damage by forcing weak contact and generating timely strikeouts.<\/span><\/p>\n Altuve extended his hitting streak to four games with a first-inning single and later added another hit in the fifth to finish with a multi-hit performance.<\/span><\/p>\n Cam Smith reached base twice on walks against Kirby and stole his fifth base of the season during the second inning.
