After a forgetful start to the Subway Series, the New York Mets<\/a> earned a 6\u20133 win over the New York Yankees<\/a> at Citi Field on Saturday. Mark Vientos<\/a><\/strong> drove in three runs, while Carson Benge<\/a><\/strong> and Juan Soto<\/a><\/strong> combined for five hits. Huascar Brazoban<\/a><\/strong> recorded fewer than two innings before David Peterson<\/a><\/strong> handled the next four. Peterson struck out eight hitters, allowed six hits, and gave up two earned runs.<\/p>\n After a scoreless first inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr.<\/a><\/strong> opened the second with a double to right field. Trent Grisham<\/a><\/strong> followed with an RBI single for the first run of the evening. Aaron Judge<\/a><\/strong> and Paul Goldschmidt<\/a><\/strong> each recorded their first hits in the third, but with runners at the corners, Peterson struck out Chisholm to end the threat.<\/p>\n Benge answered with a double to deep right in the bottom of the third. Bo Bichette<\/a><\/strong> and Soto drew walks to load the bases. A wild pitch from Carlos Rod\u00f3n<\/a><\/strong> brought home two runs, giving the Mets a 2\u20131 lead.<\/p>\n In the fourth, Austin Slater<\/a><\/strong> drew a walk before Brett Baty<\/a><\/strong> lined an RBI double for the third Mets run. In the fifth, Ben Rice<\/a><\/strong> was hit by a pitch and Judge walked, but a double play erased Judge as Rice moved to third. Goldschmidt followed with an RBI single to right, cutting the Mets lead to 3\u20132.<\/p>\n Benge singled to start the fifth and Soto drew another walk. Vientos drilled an RBI double to deep left, scoring both runners.<\/p>\n After a scoreless sixth, Judge doubled to left. Cody Bellinger<\/a><\/strong> hit a routine fly ball that Benge dropped, allowing Judge to score. Brooks Raley<\/a><\/strong> hit Goldschmidt with a pitch, and Chisholm singled to load the bases. Former Yankees reliever Luke Weaver<\/a><\/strong> struck out the next three hitters to preserve the Mets lead.<\/p>\n Benge singled again in the seventh, Bichette reached on a fielder\u2019s choice, and Soto lined a single to right before stealing second. Vientos grounded out to bring Soto home, extending the Mets\u2019 lead to three. Weaver and Devin Williams<\/a><\/strong> combined to hold the Yankees scoreless over the final two innings.<\/p>\n Vientos led the Mets with three RBI and an extra\u2011base hit. Benge and Soto combined for five hits, and Baty added an RBI. The Mets totaled eight hits and four RBI. On the mound, Brazoban struck out two before Peterson recorded eight strikeouts. Weaver and Williams held the Yankees scoreless and combined for three strikeouts over the final three innings.<\/p>\n Peterson allowed six hits and two earned runs. Raley allowed two hits and a run. Benge\u2019s dropped fly ball in the seventh brought in the Yankees\u2019 third run.<\/p>\n With the Subway Series tied, the Mets need one more win to take it \u2014 and the Yankees need one as well heading into Sunday\u2019s rubber match. Right\u2011hander Freddy Peralta<\/a><\/strong> will start for the Mets against Yankees right\u2011hander Elmer Rodriguez<\/a><\/strong>.
