In an extra innings ballgame, the New York Mets<\/a> completely throttled the Washington Nationals<\/a> at Nationals Park on Monday. Carson Benge<\/a> drove in the first run of the 12th inning, as Vidal Brujan<\/a> and Brett Baty<\/a> brought in the next three. Marcus Semien<\/a> and A.J. Ewing<\/a> drove in two runs on separate RBI singles, before Bo Bichette<\/a> and Benge doubled to score the next four. Those 10 runs scored in one inning powered the Mets to a dominant 16-7 triumph.<\/p>\n

Benge and Bichette led the way with three hits and three RBI. Baty tallied two hits and three RBI, while Juan Soto<\/a> recorded two hits and two RBI. Christian Scott<\/a> struck out five batters in four innings, while Tobias Myers<\/a>, Luke Weaver<\/a>, and Huascar Brazoban<\/a> kept the Nationals off the board.<\/p>\n

Back And Forth Affair<\/h2>\n

Tyrone Taylor<\/a> singled in the second, but reached third due to a\u00a0James Wood<\/a> fielding and throwing error. Luis Torrens<\/a> doubled to left field, scoring the Mets’ first run. Scott struck Jacob Young<\/a> on a pitch before allowing Jose Tena<\/a> to score his teammate on an RBI double. Scott then walked Jorbit Vivas<\/a>, as Drew Millas<\/a> scored Tena on an RBI single.<\/p>\n

Brady House<\/a> singled off Scott in the third. Joey Wiemer<\/a> hit an RBI double to score House. With the Nationals in front by two, Baty smashed a solo home run to bring the Mets within one run.<\/p>\n

In the fifth, a fielding error put Torrens on base. Benge drew a walk, then scored alongside Torrens on Soto\u2019s RBI single to left field. Bichette sent a solo home run to left field to give the Mets a two-run lead in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Heroics, Extra Inning Explosion<\/h2>\n

Wood doubled to deep right field in response. Curtis Mead<\/a> and House drew walks. CJ Abrams<\/a> scored Wood on a deep sacrifice fly, cutting the Mets’ lead down to one. Myers walked Wiemer, but with bases loaded, Myers struck out Tena swinging to end the inning.<\/p>\n

Wood singled to right field in the eighth. Mead doubled to deep right-center field to tie the game at 5-5. Abrams singled off Weaver in the ninth. Weaver hit Wiemer with a pitch. Moments later, Weaver forced the next two outs, sending the game into extra innings.<\/p>\n

In the 10th, Brazoban forced an out after nearly allowing the ball to fall out of his glove. The Mets intentionally walked Wood before Brazoban walked Mead. With bases loaded again, Nunez hit a force out, which allowed the Mets to tag Vivas out at home. Brazoban struck out Wood to end the inning.<\/p>\n

Semien hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Brujan, giving the Mets a one-run lead. Wiemer responded with a game-tying RBI single in the 11th. Vivas doubled to center field, but Brazoban refused to crumble under pressure, as he forced the final out.<\/p>\n

The Mets came alive in the 12th, with Benge scoring Taylor on an RBI single. Bichette singled to right field, while the Nationals intentionally walked Soto to load the bases. Brujan scored Benge on an RBI single, as Baty brought Bichette and Soto home on an RBI single. Semien\u2019s RBI single scored Brujan, then Ewing drove in Baty. Benge got his second hit of the inning, a two-RBI double. Bichette got his second hit as well, scoring two more runs on a two-RBI double.<\/p>\n

Wood scored the Nationals’ final run, but three more outs gave the Mets their decisive 11-run extra innings victory.<\/p>\n

What Went Right For The Mets<\/h2>\n

The offense was on full display in the 12th inning, where they scored 10 of their 16 total runs. Benge, Bichette, Baty, and Soto led the lineup with a combined 10 hits and 10 RBI. In total, the Mets tallied 18 hits and 15 RBI against the Nationals. Scott provided five strikeouts in four innings, as Myers, Weaver, and Brazoban held down the fort with runners in scoring position.<\/p>\n

What Went Wrong for the Mets<\/h2>\n

Scott allowed three earned runs in four innings. His five strikeouts gave him a 4.12 ERA. Mark Vientos<\/a> went hitless in five at-bats.<\/p>\n

A three-game win streak has given the Mets momentum going into Tuesday\u2019s game against the Nationals at 6:45 pm Eastern from Nationals Park.<\/p>\n
