In a continuation of their youth movement, the New York Mets<\/a> will call up prospect Nick Morabito<\/a><\/strong>, as first reported by Anthony DiComo<\/a> of MLB.com<\/em> on Tuesday. The team has not yet confirmed the roster move.<\/p>\n Morabito, the club\u2019s No. 11 prospect, is expected to join fellow rookies Carson Benge<\/a><\/strong> and A.J. Ewing<\/a><\/strong> in the outfield. In a corresponding move, the Mets will designate Austin Slater<\/a><\/strong> for assignment.<\/p>\n Like Ewing and Benge, Morabito adds speed and athleticism to a surging Mets roster. In 41 games with Triple-A Syracuse, he recorded 37 hits, four home runs, 17 RBI, and 14 stolen bases, slashing .253\/.364\/.390. Last season at Double-A Binghamton, he tallied 119 hits, 59 RBI, six home runs, and 49 stolen bases in 118 games.<\/p>\n Morabito is the latest prospect to reach the majors after Ewing\u2019s promotion last week. Ewing has made an immediate impact, recording six hits, four RBI, and a home run in his first seven games while slashing .340\/.467\/.522. Benge has also contributed, posting 38 hits, 17 RBI, three home runs, and seven doubles in 44 games.<\/p>\n With Morabito in the mix, Benge can remain in right field while Ewing handles center. Morabito is expected to play left field, giving Juan Soto<\/a><\/strong> additional opportunities at designated hitter as he works through lingering injuries.<\/p>\n The Mets designated Slater for assignment after he opened the season with five hits and an RBI in 20 at-bats. He is hitting .250 with a -0.1 WAR.<\/p>\n On Monday evening, the club promoted pitching prospect Zach Thornton<\/a><\/strong> to bolster the staff. Thornton, the Mets\u2019 No. 13 prospect, struck out 13 batters in two appearances for Triple-A Syracuse.
