The Boston Red Sox<\/a> were swept by the Minnesota Twins<\/a> with a 6\u20135 loss Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. Bailey Ober<\/strong><\/a> got the win while pitching five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. Tyron Guerrero<\/strong><\/a> took the loss, surrendering two earned runs in two thirds of an inning.<\/p>\n After getting the first two outs easily, Sonny Gray<\/strong><\/a> got into a jam while constantly falling behind in the count. Kody Clemens<\/strong><\/a> took a 3\u20131 sinker and sent it to right for an RBI single for a 1\u20130 lead. The Red Sox got that run back in the second inning, when Masataka Yoshida<\/a><\/strong> deposited a 1\u20132 changeup into the right field stands.<\/p>\n The Twins came right back in the top of the third. Trevor Larnach<\/strong><\/a> posted an RBI single to right field to take a 2\u20131 lead. With the bases loaded, Victor Caratini<\/strong><\/a> grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, driving in Larnach.<\/p>\n After a leadoff double by Wilyer Abreu<\/strong><\/a> to start the fourth, Willson Contreras<\/strong><\/a> smacked a 1\u20131 sinker over the green monster to tie the game at 3\u20133. With two outs, Marcelo Mayer<\/a> <\/strong>hit a 1\u20132 slider past a diving Clemens to drive in Yoshida and take a 4\u20133 lead.<\/p>\n Garrett Whitlock<\/strong><\/a> inherited two runners coming into the game in the sixth inning. Austin Martin<\/strong><\/a> lined a double into left field tying the game at 4\u20134. Brooks Lee<\/strong><\/a> followed up with a two-run single to take a 6\u20134 lead.<\/p>\n The Red Sox seemed primed to get some runs across with runners on second and third with one out. Yoendrys Gomez<\/strong><\/a> came out the bullpen and put a stop to it, striking out Contreras and forcing a fly out from Yoshida.<\/p>\n The Red Sox started the ninth with a Nick Sogard<\/strong><\/a> triple and a walk from Carlos Narvaez<\/strong><\/a>. After a Mayer strikeout, Isiah Kiner-Falefa<\/a><\/strong> ripped a double off the green monster, scoring Sogard. However, Connor Wong<\/strong><\/a> was thrown out trying to go for home. Manager Chad Tracy<\/strong><\/a> challenged the call for possible interference from the catcher, but the call was upheld.<\/p>\n Gomez balked on his first pitch attempt, slipping on the wet mound. He then plunked Jarren Duran<\/strong><\/a> in the shin. Ceddanne Rafaela<\/strong> <\/a>hit a line drive to right. However, it went right to Martin to end the game.<\/p>\n Abreu bounced back with two hits after going 0-for-4 in the prior game. Contreras and Yoshida both had multi-hit games as well.<\/p>\n Sonny Gray only made it through four innings this game. Gray excelled in the entire month of May until this point, with a 1.08 ERA in three starts during that span. Garrett Whitlock also wasn’t at his best during his outing.<\/p>\n Third base coach Chad Epperson was the guy to send Connor Wong home on Kiner-Falefa’s double. Simply put, it was a bad send, and he should’ve just kept Wong at third. A team can’t be throwing away outs like that in that situation.<\/p>\n The Red Sox were riding high after their series sweep of the Kansas City Royals<\/a>. Now, it might as well have not happened.<\/p>\n The Red Sox now look forward to a three-game series at Fenway Park starting Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves<\/a>.
