The Boston Red Sox<\/a> fell to the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, 4\u20132, Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The Orioles earned the win behind Shane Baz<\/a><\/strong>, who allowed two runs over seven innings with six strikeouts. Connelly Early<\/a><\/strong> took the loss after giving up four runs in 5 1\/3 innings. The matchup featured early scoring from both sides, but the Red Sox were unable to build on their first\u2011inning lead.<\/p>\n The Red Sox struck first in the opening inning. Jarren Duran<\/a><\/strong> led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Wilyer Abreu<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Orioles answered in the second. Coby Mayo<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s leadoff hit was initially ruled a double, but replay showed the ball clearing the fence before bouncing back into play. The call was overturned to a home run, Mayo\u2019s seventh of the season.<\/p>\n The Orioles added on in the third. With a runner on, Pete Alonso<\/a><\/strong> crushed a changeup over the Green Monster for his 12th home run of the year. Later in the inning, Blaze Alexander<\/a><\/strong> lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in Tyler O\u2019Neill, extending the lead to 4\u20131.<\/p>\n The Red Sox scored their second run on a sacrifice fly from Marcelo Mayer<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Greg Weissert<\/a><\/strong> and Tyler Samaniego<\/a><\/strong> both did excellent jobs in relief. They tossed a combined 3 2\/3 scoreless innings, keeping the Red Sox close.<\/p>\n The Red Sox finished with five hits and two walks, making it difficult to build sustained pressure. Aside from contributions from Mickey Gasper<\/a><\/strong> and Ceddanne Rafaela<\/a><\/strong>, the lineup had trouble generating traffic on the bases.<\/p>\n The Red Sox (25\u201334) and Orioles (29\u201332) will play the second game of their three-game series Wednesday evening. Payton Tolle<\/a><\/strong> will start for the Red Sox, and Chris Bassitt<\/a><\/strong> will pitch for the Orioles.
