ARLINGTON, Texas (June 7) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> secured their third consecutive series victory when they beat the Cleveland Guardians<\/a>, 10\u20130, Sunday afternoon. They were fueled by four home runs hit by Justin Foscue<\/a><\/strong>, Josh Jung<\/a><\/strong>, Wyatt Langford<\/a><\/strong>, and Michael Helman<\/a><\/strong> respectively. With this homestand crossed off the schedule, the Rangers now embark on a six-game road trip starting with three against the Kansas City Royals<\/a>. That set will begin Tuesday with first pitch slated for 6:40 pm Central at Kauffman Stadium. It will be a duel of right-handers as Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong> (5\u20136, 4.10 ERA) will go up against Stephen Kolek<\/a><\/strong> (3\u20131, 3.32 ERA)<\/p>\n As for the Guardians, they will head back to Cleveland to host the New York Yankees<\/a> in a three-game series. The opener will be Monday with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 pm Eastern at Progressive Field. Righties Will Warren<\/strong><\/a> (7\u20131, 3.22 ERA) and Gavin Williams<\/strong><\/a> (9\u20133, 3.20) will go head-to-head in that matchup.<\/p>\n The Rangers started the fun in the top of the first against left-hander Joey Cantillo<\/a><\/strong>. Jung set the table with a one-out single to center. After Brandon Nimmo<\/a><\/strong> flied to left, Foscue drove the first pitch he saw to left for his third homer of the year.<\/p>\n They added three more in the bottom of the third. Jung made it 3\u20130 with a solo shot to right on a 1\u20130 pitch from Cantillo. It was his eighth of the year. Nimmo followed with a double to left and Foscue reached on a walk. On deck was Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong>, who plated both runners with a double down the line in left. After Joc Pederson<\/a><\/strong> flied to left, a wild pitch moved Duran to third. He scored moments later courtesy of a single to the right of the mound by Jake Burger<\/a><\/strong>. Cantillo scooped it up but his throw to first was offline. It rolled to the left of the Rangers’ dugout.<\/p>\n The Rangers tacked on a seventh run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a one-out blast to left by Langford on a 3\u20131 pitch, his second of the season.<\/p>\n Michael Helman joined the parade in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Will Dion<\/a><\/strong>. Helman blasted a leadoff round-tripper to left on a 1\u20130 pitch, his first of the campaign.<\/p>\n The Rangers scored their final two runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the eighth with position player Austin Hedges<\/a><\/strong> on the mound. Recently signed catcher Elias Diaz<\/a><\/strong> led off with a single to right. Nicky Lopez<\/a><\/strong> came off the bench to pinch-hit for Langford. He moved Diaz up 90 feet with a single to second. It was deflected off the glove of Kyle Manzardo<\/a><\/strong> at first. Diaz advanced to third on a 5\u20133 force play grounded into by Jung. Up next was Evan Carter<\/a>,<\/strong> hitting for Nimmo. He scored Diaz and Jung with a single to right.<\/p>\n The Rangers used a mix of power and contact to win the finale on Sunday. The home runs by Foscue, Jung, Langford, and Helman helped send the crowd of 34,851 home with a smile on their face. Eight runs is usually more than enough to claim the series, but the Rangers had other ideas. Carter’s two-run single in the eighth slammed the door on the Guardians.<\/p>\n The Rangers put up nine zeroes Sunday, but it didn’t come easy. Their pitching staff allowed eight baserunners with deGrom working his way out of several obstacles, including a bases-loaded jam in the fifth with Jose Ramirez<\/a><\/strong> at the plate.<\/p>\n Rangers starter Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong> picked up career win No. 101 with six scoreless innings. His final line was 3 H, 2 BB, 6 SO, 87 pitches\/58 strikes. He has crafted back-to-back outings of five or more scoreless innings for the first time since May 31 through June 11, 2021 as a member of the New York Mets<\/a>. His record now sits at 5\u20134 with an ERA of 3.18.<\/p>\n Guardians starter Joey Cantillo picked up his 3rd loss of the season, matching a career high with seven earned runs on a career-high nine hits over five stanzas. He ran into trouble early, allowing the two-run 417-foot blast to Foscue in the first. Cantillo struck out seven as he became the sixth pitcher in the majors to tally seven punch-outs while allowing seven earned runs in a start this year. He has been tagged for 15 earned runs over his last 11 innings to see his ERA rise from 3.05 to 4.57 since May 26. Sunday was his 2nd career start against the Rangers and his first at Globe Life Field. He now owns a record of 4\u20133 with an ERA of 4.57.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/a><\/strong> gave his impression of Sunday’s outburst of power. “There were some great at-bats today,” he said. You had (Justin) Foscue starting it off with his home run in the first. We carried it on from there. Everybody had a really nice day. Even Joc (Pederson) who didn’t get a hit, but he smoked the ball a few times. It was a really good day. Again, it started with Justin Foscue, and you had JJ (Josh Jung), Wyatt (Langford), and Michael (Helman). Those guys helped us win our third straight series, which is a first for us this year.
