In a rather quick turn of events, the New York Mets<\/a> reinstated catcher Francisco Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> from the injured list on Tuesday. Alvarez sustained a torn meniscus during a game against the Detroit Tigers<\/a> on May 12. He was expected to miss 6\u20138 eight weeks, but recovered in less than a month. In fact, he was back to doing baseball activities and on a rehab assignment two weeks after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy is unbelievable,\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza said.<\/p>\n

Francisco Alvarez Returns<\/h4>\n

Alvarez will make his return to the Mets during Tuesday\u2019s game against the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> at Citi Field. Prior to the injury, he was slashing .241\/.317\/.393 with 27 hits, four home runs and 10 RBI. The 24-year-old power-hitter gives the Mets more reliability behind home plate. He also brings more stability to their lineup.<\/p>\n

When Francisco Alvarez was out of action, the team relied heavily on Luis Torrens<\/strong><\/a>. The veteran catcher was an effective replacement, producing 24 hits, nine doubles and 15 RBI. He\u2019s batting .218 on a .590 OPS.<\/p>\n

To make room for Francisco Alvarez, the Mets are sending Hayden Senger<\/a><\/strong> down to Triple-A Syracuse. In seven appearances, Senger recorded two hits, two RBI and a home run. His numbers were not exactly what the team was looking for.<\/p>\n

In Other News<\/h4>\n

The Mets also announced that righty Kodai Senga<\/strong><\/a> was scratched from his rehab star with Double-A Binghamton due to ulnar nerve irritation in his right arm. Another injury can further derail his fourth season in Queens. The Japanese product landed on the Injured List during April due to lumbar spine inflammation. Mendoza noted that Senga\u2019s velocity dipped in his previous start, which the team is keeping an eye on.<\/p>\n

In four starts, the former All-Star went 0\u20134 with a 9.00 ERA and 20 earned runs. At the minor league level, Senga surrendered seven earned runs and 14 hits across 12 innings.<\/p>\n
