During a six-game losing streak, the New York Mets<\/a> fired manager Carlos Mendoza<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Friday morning. The team made the announcement after being swept by the Chicago Cubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mendoza spent three and half years in Queens, going 206\u2013199 with a .509 win-loss %. He led the Mets to the 2024 NLCS, but was at the helm of a mid-season collapse in 2025. It became more difficult this season due to the team owning a record of 34\u201347, putting them in last place in the National League East.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to express my deepest gratitude to Mendoza for his leadership and unwavering commitment. He represented this organization with integrity and dedication, and I wish him and his family the best,\u201d owner Steve Cohen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur commitment to bringing our fans a championship-caliber team has not changed. There is no sugar coating it: this season has been a disappointment and our fans deserve better than what we\u2019ve delivered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendoza\u2019s removal comes months after President of Baseball Operations David Stearns remained confident in his ability to lead the team. At the start of the offseason, Stearns kept Mendoza at the helm, but reconstructed the coaching staff.<\/p>\n

Now, the front office appointed Andy Green<\/strong><\/a> to be the interim manager. Green was the team\u2019s senior vice president of player development. He brings a degree of managerial experience from his time with the San Diego Padres<\/a>. His goal will be to lead the Mets out of mediocrity for the time being.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarlos has led the organization with passion and grace and is beloved by everyone who works with him on a daily basis,\u201d Stearns said. \u201cCarlos’ impact on our players, staff and culture over the last three seasons has been transformative. Unfortunately, we know we are falling short, and change is necessary to move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mets Remove Carlos Mendoza<\/h4>\n

The Mets tenure of Mendoza was defined by a hopeful start and a disappointing ending. The team hired him in 2024 to change their trajectory of being a consistently losing team. It was ugly at times with the Mets starting out 0\u20135, until they went on a late-season win streak. This powered them through the postseason and into the NLCS.<\/p>\n

The Mets brought more reassurance to Carlos Mendoza at the start of last season. They began with a 40\u201324 record and on pace to be the best team in Major League Baseball. But then they went on a disappointing losing streak. Ultimately, they missed the postseason by one game.<\/p>\n

This season was make or break for Mendoza. With pressure mounting against him, the Mets went on a 12-game losing streak. They recovered slightly, but that was met with more losing. Not to mention during this season, Mendoza made mistakes that hinder the team\u2019s chances of winning.<\/p>\n

Green Has Experience<\/h4>\n

Since 2019, the Mets have had six different managers. Carlos Mendoza was the latest firing, with Green succeeding him for the time being. Before joining the Mets organization, Green led the Padres for four seasons. He has a 274\u2013366 record with no winning seasons or playoff experience. He is also a former player, spending five seasons in the majors. One of which was with the Mets for four games in 2009.<\/p>\n
