In a quiet middle game of their series, the New York Mets<\/a> strung together a 6\u20132 victory over the Kansas City Royals<\/a>. At Citi Field on Wednesday, A.J. Ewing<\/strong><\/a> hit a leadoff shot in the first. Seven innings later, his team put five more runs across the board to move ahead of their opponent. Righty Christian Scott<\/strong><\/a> tossed five innings without giving up a run. He ended the outing with three strikeouts while sureendering three hits.<\/p>\n Scott allowed his first hit of the game to Bobby Witt Jr.<\/a><\/strong> on a single. But, he escaped the first without allowing another one. Ewing then blasted a lead off shot to deep center field on his first plate appearance. In the second, Scott walked a batter before giving up a hit to Issac Collins<\/strong><\/a>. Still, the Mets ended the inning without allowing a run to score.<\/p>\n Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> drew a walk and Bo Bichette<\/strong><\/a> lined a single in the third. But this was to no avail, as Francisco Lindor<\/strong><\/a> flew out. Two innings later, Jac Caglianone<\/a><\/strong> doubled off Tobias Myers<\/strong><\/a>. Salvador Perez<\/a><\/strong> then delivered on an RBI single that tied the game at 1\u20131.<\/p>\n In a tense eighth inning, Lindor singled and Carson Benge<\/strong><\/a> drew a walk before Jorge Polanco<\/a><\/strong> lined a single. With the bases loaded, Jared Young<\/a><\/strong> was hit by a pitch to score a run. Brett Baty<\/a><\/strong> then drove in a pair on a clutch two RBI single. Young then scored off a wild pitch. To end the frame, Francisco Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> scored Baty on a single.<\/p>\n As they took a five-run lead, the Mets turned to righty Xzavion Curry<\/strong><\/a>. He got the first two outs, but then walked Josh Rojas<\/strong><\/a>. Carter Jensen<\/a> then hit a RBI double cut the lead down to four. Yet, Curry struck out Witt to seal the Mets four-run victory.<\/p>\n Ewing led off the game with a home run in addition to tallying another hit. Baty came through in the eighth with a two RBI single. Alvarez plated an RBI single of his own. Scott spun five scoreless innings, tossing five strikeouts and allowing three hits. He finished with a 3.17 ERA.<\/p>\n Myers gave up three hits and an earned run in two innings of relief. Curry gave up a run and a hit, although he sealed the win. Soto went hitless, as Lindor and Bichette didn\u2019t score any runs.<\/p>\n After taking care of business in the middle game, the Mets need one more win to take the series from the Royals. Sean Manaea<\/a><\/strong> (1-4, 5.16 ERA) will start in the series finale against Michael Wacha<\/a><\/strong> (5-6 3.45 ERA).
