ARLINGTON, Texas (July 20) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> began their seven-game homestand with a 10\u20133 loss to the Chicago White Sox<\/a> Monday night in front of a crowd of 28,506. This loss brings the Rangers back to .500 at 50\u201350 and moves them a half-game out of first place in the AL West behind the Seattle Mariners<\/a>, who beat the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>, 8\u20130, Monday. A three-run double by Andrew Benintendi<\/a><\/strong> provided most of the South-Siders’ offense in the opener of this series. The Rangers will try to force a rubber game Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Lefty Noah Schultz<\/a><\/strong> (3\u20136, 5.60 ERA) will face righty Kumar Rocker<\/a><\/strong> (2\u20138, 4.40 ERA) in that contest.<\/p>\n After a scoreless top of the first, the Rangers jumped out to a 1\u20130 lead in the bottom half of the frame. With Erick Fedde<\/a><\/strong> on the mound and a 2\u20131 count, Joc Pederson<\/a><\/strong> blasted one to the seats in right for his 17th bomb of the year. It was his fifth leadoff homer this season, and the 10th of that variety for his career.<\/p>\n They doubled their lead in the bottom of the second. Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong> reached on a one-out double that slid under a diving Tristan Peters<\/a><\/strong> in center. On deck was Evan Carter<\/a><\/strong>, who plated Duran with a single to right.<\/p>\n The White Sox cut the lead in half in the top of the third off righty Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong>. With one out in the inning, Sam Antonacci<\/a><\/strong> hit a single that rolled a few steps to the right of Duran at short. This enabled Antonacci to beat Duran’s throw to the first-base bag. Miguel Vargas<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>scored Antonacci with a double to left.<\/p>\n The White Sox took a 5\u20132 lead in the top of the fifth. Peters led off with a sharp double to right. After deGrom struck out Chase Meidroth<\/a><\/strong> swinging, Antonacci brought Peters home with a single up the middle. He jogged to second when Munetaka Murakami<\/a><\/strong> drew a one-out walk. Vargas followed with a single that Josh Jung<\/a><\/strong> bobbled at third. Colson Montgomery<\/a><\/strong> struck out swinging to bring up Benintendi, who plated all three runners with a double to right.<\/p>\n The Rangers scored again the bottom of the seventh against reliever Seranthony Dominguez<\/a><\/strong>. Leading off the inning, Jake Burger<\/a><\/strong> stepped to the plated and deposited a ball to left-center on the first pitch of the at-bat.<\/p>\n The White Sox tacked on four more in the top of the ninth off reliever Jose Corniell<\/a><\/strong>. Meidroth drew a walk to open the stanza. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Antonacci that rolled back to the mound. Next up was Murakami, whom Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/a><\/strong> gave the intentional walk to. That brought up Vargas, who plated Meidroth with a double to left, marking his third hit of the game. Munetaka and Vargas crossed the plate moments later thanks to a single to right by former Rangers prospect Luisangel Acuna<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n That brought up Randal Grichuk<\/a><\/strong>, who scored Acuna with a triple that rolled to the wall in left-center. Grichuk used his speed to get all the way to third.<\/p>\n After Drew Romo<\/a><\/strong> struck out swinging, Grichuk scored courtesy of a double to left by Braden Montgomery<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n As previously mentioned, Benintendi drove in most of the White Sox’ offense on Monday. He’ll get the three RBI, but that inning was the kind of team effort that managers love to see. Benintendi wouldn’t have had that chance had Antonacci, Murakami, and Vargas failed to get on base with their hits and Murakami’s free pass. Vargas also had the RBI doubles in the third and ninth. Grichuk’s RBI triple and Montgomery’s run-scoring double were simply icing on the cake.<\/p>\n The White Sox had their hands full early when Pederson hit his leadoff shot in the first. Leading off games with homers has become one of Pederson’s specialties in 2026 along with getting on base in general. Other hurdles included Carter’s run-scoring single in the second and Burger’s dinger in the seventh.<\/p>\n Rangers starter Jacob deGrom made his 19th start of the campaign and was saddled with his sixth loss after permitting five runs, all earned, across 4 2\/3 innings. He now owns a record of 7\u20136. The rest of his line was 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 97 pitches\/60 strikes. deGrom yielded one run in his first four frames, including a first-inning tightrope act that saw him wiggle out of a jam, with runners on second and third, no outs with no runs allowed. He was one strike away from escaping the fifth inning with a 2-2 tie but was tagged by Benintendi for the three-run double that snuck inside the right field line.<\/p>\n deGrom gave way to Peyton Gray<\/a><\/strong> with a 5\u20132 deficit. He dealt with an elevated pitch count, throwing 23 or more pitches in three separate innings. deGrom was entrenched in five different plate appearances of seven or more pitches, two of which resulted in a baserunner. He has a 5.34 ERA in his last five starts to raise his season ERA from 3.17 to 3.76.<\/p>\n White Sox starter Erick Fedde left with a no-decision in his 20th appearance and 10th start after turning in four innings. His line was 4 H, 2 R-ER, 0 BB, 6 K. He allowed the leadoff homer to Pederson, his second leadoff bomb surrendered this season and 10th of his career. Fedde leads the White Sox in home runs allowed with 16. He was hurt in the second by the RBI single by Carter, but cruised for the rest of his outing, retiring the last eight batters he faced on 24 pitches. Fedde was pulled after throwing 64 pitches, his second straight appearance of less than 70 tosses. He tied season high in strikeouts after entering Monday with 6.07 K\/9, This was the second start in his last 8 games as he has oscillated between rotation and relief in 2026.<\/p>\n Left-hander Chris Murphy<\/strong><\/a> came in to relieve Fedde in the fifth and earned his third win of the year. He improves to 3\u20130 with an ERA of 4.30 after tossing a perfect inning and a third with one strikeout.<\/p>\n After the game, Schumaker gave his thoughts on how things went Tuesday. “We faced a tough Braves team (since the All-Star Break),” he said. “They put together a lot of tough at-bats against us and we couldn’t contain them. Then we came into here. There were a couple of missed location pitches tonight that cost us some runs. (Jacob) deGrom got out of a jam in the first inning and was looking good. A couple of innings later, they capitalized on these pitches.
