In the early hours of the August 3 trade deadline, the New York Mets<\/a> made two key moves. Past midnight on Monday, they traded right-hander Huascar Brazoban<\/strong><\/a> to the Chicago White Sox<\/a> for prospects Gabe Davis<\/strong><\/a> and Zach Franklin<\/a><\/strong>. A few hours later, the team dealt left-hander Brooks Raley<\/strong><\/a> to the Philadelphia Philles<\/a> for prospects John Spikerman<\/strong><\/a> and Luke Gabrysh<\/strong><\/a>. All three teams confirmed the deals.<\/p>\n

Trade Deadline Moves<\/h4>\n

After moving on from left-handed A.J. Minter<\/strong><\/a> and right-hander Freddy Peralta<\/a><\/strong> at the end of last week, the Mets continued to dismantle their core of talent. That meant parting ways with two key members of the relief unit in return for prospects.<\/p>\n

Brazoban, for starters, was one of the more reliable members. Through 46 appearances, he had a 2.56 ERA and 49 strikeouts. At the start of the season, he went 10 games without giving up a run and did so in countless other outings. Due to his reliability, Brazoban was traded to the White Sox, who hold the first seed in the AL Central at 59\u201352.<\/p>\n

Raley, on the other hand, was considered more reliable for the Mets. During his fourth season in Queens, the veteran lefty had a 1.96 ERA with 40 strikeouts in more than 41 innings. In May, he went six straight games without giving up a run, before going seven outings without surrendering a run in July. He was traded to the NL East rival Phillies, who are in better standing at the trade deadline than the Mets. They are also fighting for first place in the division, as the Mets sit in last place.<\/p>\n

Prospects in Return<\/h4>\n

From the Brazoban deal, the Mets received Davis and Franklin. Davis, a right-handed starter, was ranked No. 18 in the White Sox system. He was 0\u20135 with a 5.81 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Franklin, on the other hand, was not ranked and has spent four years in the minors. The right-handed reliever went 12\u20139 with a 3.46 ERA across 129 appearances.<\/p>\n

For moving Raley at the trade deadline, the Mets received Spikerman and Gabrysh. Spikerman was ranked No. 28 in the Phillies system in addition to being a versatile outfielder. In three minor league seasons, he recorded 87 hits, 36 RBI and three home runs on a .232 average. Gabrysh, meanwhile, was not ranked in that same system. The right-handed starter had a 10\u201312 record with a 4.17 ERA and 148 strikeouts.<\/p>\n

The Mets have yet to reveal where they will fit into their farm system. Yet, there is a possibility that they could join the Single-A St. Luice Mets or the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones.<\/p>\n
