ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug 3) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a>‘ losing streak now stands at six as they fell to the San Francisco Giants<\/a>, 5\u20131, Monday night. The big hits of the night belonged to Jung Hoo Lee<\/a><\/strong>, who homered twice in this game to the dismay of the 23,736 in attendance. The Rangers will aim to force a rubber game in this three-game series Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Righty Blade Tidwell<\/a><\/strong> (0\u20130, 3.00 ERA) will match up against left-hander MacKenzie Gore<\/a><\/strong> (6\u20139, 4.77 ERA).<\/p>\n Both teams traded zeroes in the first inning. The Giants put two in the run column in the top of the second with righty Cal Quantrill<\/a><\/strong> pitching. To lead off the frame, Daniel Susac<\/a><\/strong> reached second on a fielding error by Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong> at third. Susac scored on a single to right by Drew Gilbert<\/a><\/strong>. A fielding error by Brandon Nimmo<\/a><\/strong> in right enabled Gilbert to advance to third. Up next was Osleivis Basabe<\/a><\/strong>, who plated Gilbert with a sacrifice fly to right.<\/p>\n The Giants stretched their modest lead to 3\u20130 in the top of the third courtesy of a solo homer to right-center by Lee with one out and a 1\u20131 count. It was Lee’s seventh blast of the season.<\/p>\n Lee hit his second solo homer in the top of the eight against reliever Peyton Gray<\/a><\/strong>. It came on the first pitch Lee saw and like his first of the night, this one also went to right-center.<\/p>\n The Giants scored one more in the top of the ninth off reliever Nolan Kingham<\/strong><\/a>, who was making his major league debut. Grant McCray<\/strong><\/a> drew a one-out walk and moved up 90 feet on a single that Duran had trouble with at third. Kingham walked Nate Furman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to load the bases. Lee scored McCray with a sacrifice fly to center.<\/p>\n The Rangers put an end to the Giants’ shutout bid in the top of the ninth off reliever Tristan Beck<\/strong><\/a>. With one out, Duran belted a solo dinger to left on a 3\u20132 pitch for his 13th home run of the year.<\/p>\n When you look at any box score, one of the first things you see is the home runs. While there was the multi-homer game by Lee, one thing that must not be overlooked is the Rangers’ errors. They both came in the second. Napoleon Bonaparte said it best, never interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake. The Giants took this to heart Monday as Susac landed on second thanks to Duran’s error. Gilbert reached third on Nimmo’s miscue.<\/p>\n One of the things that the Giants could have improved on was the men they left on base. They left seven on the sacks and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Giants also gave up Duran’s homer in the ninth.<\/p>\n Rangers starter Cal Quantrill took the loss despite allowing one earned tally while putting together a Quality Start. His record now sits at 4\u20134 with a 3.62 ERA. Quantrill’s line was 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R-1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 87 pitches\/57 strikes. Monday marked his second quality start with the Rangers. The first came on July 10 against the Houston Astros<\/a> where he surrendered one earned run over six frames. The only run allowed on his own accord Monday was the solo homer by Lee in the third. Quantrill has posted a 3.34 ERA in seven starts for the Rangers this year. They are 3\u20134 in those games.<\/p>\n Giants starter Logan Webb<\/strong><\/a> moved to 7\u20137 on the campaign after tossing six stanzas while allowing five hits, one walk and a season-high eight strikeouts. He has now earned two wins in a row in his last four starts from July 3-24. Webb owns a 1.44 ERA in five starts against the Rangers in his career. He reached 100 strikeouts (101) for the 6th straight year and ranks sixth in the majors with 1,012 strikeouts since 2021.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/a><\/strong> gave his thoughts on his team’s performance in this contest. “We played probably our worst game of the year tonight, honestly,” he lamented. “Other than Cal (Quantrill) and (Ezequiel) Duran. Cal pitched really good, six innings one run, earned I think. I don’t know what the scorekeeper did, but I’m guessing it was just one run.
