New York Mets<\/a> interim manager Andy Green<\/a><\/strong> will rejoin the front office after this season ends, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns confirmed. Stearns appointed Green to be interim manager in June following the firing of Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a>. Green has found success in the role, leading some to believe he should be their next manager. But, Stearns doesn\u2019t expect that to be the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my expectation that he returns to the front office. I think Green\u2019s expectation is he\u2019s going to rejoin the front office, and I have no reason to believe otherwise right now,\u201d Stearns said during Monday\u2019s press conference.<\/p>\n

Successful Stint<\/h4>\n

Before joining the Mets organization, Green was the manager of the San Diego Padres<\/a>. He held a 274\u2013366 record and had never led them to the playoffs through four years from 2016 to 2019.<\/p>\n

That is why some had doubts about Andy Green being the Mets manager. Yet, he has been able to help them slowly get back on track, going 10\u20133 since the August 3 trade deadline. Additionally, he has led them to two separate four game win streaks in August.<\/p>\n

Green also has experience working alongside veterans and younger players from being the Mets senior vice president of player development. In this front office role, he oversaw the development of prospects coming through the team\u2019s farm system. Additionally, he also worked with some veteran players to some extent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s done a great job here,\u201d Stearns added. \u201cIt helps that he\u2019s had that familiarity with some of those players who are coming through our system. They know him, he knows them. He also has some familiarity with our veteran players, and so that wasn\u2019t completely new to anyone as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Search for Next Manager<\/h4>\n

With Andy Green rejoining the front office, Stearns will lead the Mets search for a manager during the offseason. External options include former Boston Red Sox<\/a> skipper Alex Cora<\/strong><\/a>. Internally, the Mets have had conversations with Hall of Fame outfielder Carlos Beltran<\/a><\/strong> about the position. The team hired Beltran to be their manager in 2019, but he stepped down before the season began due to his involvement in the Houston Astros<\/a> sign stealing scandal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we get to that point, I\u2019ll be able to talk more broadly and holistically about what we would be looking for in the next manager. I don\u2019t think right now is the right time to have those conversations,\u201d Stearns concluded.<\/p>\n
