ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug 21) \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> made things exciting with a 2\u20131 come-from-behind victory in extra innings over the Los Angeles Angels<\/a>\u00a0Friday. A walk-off single by Ezequiel Duran<\/a><\/strong> in the 10th inning sealed the deal for the Rangers. With this win, they were able to stay one game behind the AL West-leading Houston Astros<\/a>, who beat the Athletics<\/a>, 4\u20130, Friday. The Rangers will go for their second straight series win Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm Central at Globe Life Field. Right-hander Ryan Johnson<\/a><\/strong> (2\u20137, 6.41 ERA) will go up against lefty Cody Bradford<\/a><\/strong> (0\u20131, 2.93 ERA).<\/p>\n It was a long night for both teams. The Angels finally scored the first run by either team in the top of the 10th. With reliever Tyler Alexander<\/a><\/strong> pitching and Jose Siri<\/a><\/strong> on second as the automatic runner, Denzer Guzman<\/a><\/strong> lined a leadoff double over the head of Wyatt Langford<\/a><\/strong> in left to score Siri.<\/p>\n The Rangers made their comeback in the bottom of the 10th against reliever Ben Joyce<\/a><\/strong>. Evan Carter<\/a><\/strong> jogged out to second base as the automatic runner. He moved to third when Justin Foscue<\/a><\/strong> flied to right. After Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong> struck out swinging, Langford lined a double to right. Carter scored on the play to tie it at one all. On deck was Brandon Nimmo<\/a><\/strong>, who was intentionally walked. That brought up Duran, who hit a sharp single to Guzman at third. A throwing error by Guzman that eluded Oswald Peraza<\/a><\/strong> at second lit a fire in Langford’s legs, and he sprinted home to score the winning run. Despite there being a modest crowd of 29,309, there was plenty of noise for the occasion.<\/p>\n The Rangers were patient entire evening. They picked the right moment to pounce and they took advantage of it. Duran has had the winning hit in the Rangers’ last two walk-off wins. The previous instance was August 4 in a 5\u20134 win over the San Francisco Giants<\/a>. Langford also came through nicely with his game-tying double. Peraza’s throwing miscue helped the Rangers slink away with the win.<\/p>\n The Rangers faced trouble in the 10th when Guzman scored Siri with his double. Over the course of the game, the Rangers also left 11 men on base and were weld to a 3-for-11 clip with runners in scoring position.<\/p>\n Rangers lefty MacKenzie Gore<\/strong><\/a> logged six scoreless innings with only two hits and one walk while striking out seven Friday. He threw 100 pitches, 64 of them for strikes. Gore received no runs of support, however, and did not factor into the decision of the contest. He matched up with the Angels\u2019 Reid Detmers<\/strong><\/a> for a third time this season and second time this month. His previous two outings came on May 24 and August 10, both in Anaheim. His 30 strikeouts versus the Angels in \u201826 are the most in a single season by a Rangers pitcher against one opponent since Major League Baseball adopted its \u2018balanced\u2019 schedule in 2023.<\/p>\n The win went to Alexander, who improves to 4\u20132 on the year with a 3.23 ERA. There was no save.<\/p>\n Angels starter Reid Detmers left with a no-decision in his 26th start of the year. His line was 6 IP with 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K. He extended his scoreless inning streak to a career-high 16 IP. Eight frames of the streak are against the Rangers. The streak began in the fifth inning on August 10 versus the Rangers in Anaheim. Detmers avoided trouble in the fifth, getting out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by inducing Foscue to ground into a fielder\u2019s-choice force play and Seager to strike out looking.<\/p>\n After recording the last out in the sixth, Detmers reached a single-season career-high of 149 innings pitched. He is third in the majors since the All-Star break with a 1.56 ERA, his lowest ERA over any 40-inning-or-greater span in his career.<\/p>\n He made his eighth appearance and sixth start at Globe Life Field, posting his second scoreless start at this ballpark.<\/p>\n After yielding the walk-off single to Duran, Joyce took the loss, bringing his record to 0\u20131 with an ERA of 0.00. Over his two-thirds of an inning in the ninth, both of the runs against him were unearned on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.<\/p>\n After the game, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker<\/strong><\/a> gave an explanation of what unfolded in the 10th inning. \u201c(Ezequiel) Duran, he had a great game, but the reason why that play happened, in my opinion, was because (Brandon) Nimmo took the baserunning seriously,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was running as hard as he could. The secondary (lead) was fantastic. It could have very easily been just a jog into second base. Instead, Nimmo gave everything he could to try to beat the throw, and an errant throw happened, and we ended up winning the game.
