A solo shot and a grand slam from Francisco Lindor<\/a> <\/strong>helped the <\/span>New York Mets<\/a> beat the <\/span>New York Yankees<\/a> 12\u20132 in the middle game of the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium Saturday. Lindor finished 3-for-5 with five RBI and two home runs. Luis Torrens<\/strong><\/a> and Carson Benge<\/strong><\/a> both went yard in the second and third. Additionally, Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> hit a solo shot of his own and Jared Young<\/a><\/strong> had a homer in the ninth.<\/span><\/p>\n The Mets efforts came as left-hander Zac Thornton<\/strong><\/a> tossed seven innings with four strikeouts and surrendered only two earned runs. Right-hander Tobias Myers<\/strong><\/a> sealed the win and recorded two strikeouts in the final two innings.<\/p>\n Lindor started the game with a lead-off blast to right off Gerrit Cole<\/a><\/strong>. This put the Mets ahead and set up Thornton for a quick first inning when he struck out All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n In the second, Young lined a single to center. Torrens took one of Cole\u2019s pitches deep for a two-run homer to left. After that, Nick Morabito<\/strong><\/a> and Juan Soto singled off Cole. Yet, the former Cy Young winner struck out Soto to end the inning.<\/p>\n Thornton, on the other hand, struck out Heliot Ramos<\/strong><\/a> and Spencer Jones<\/strong><\/a> to end the frame with the Mets leading by three. This came before Benge hit a solo blast to right field off Cole, who ended the inning without allowing another run to score. Thornton did the same in the third, but was challenged in the fourth.<\/p>\n Paul Goldschmidt<\/a><\/strong> started the frame with a double off the Mets rookie. Cody Bellinger<\/a><\/strong> followed through with an RBI single to score Goldschmidt. Still, Thornton struck out Ramos as the inning ended with the Mets ahead by three.<\/p>\n Soto doubled off left-hander Ryan Yarbrough<\/strong><\/a> to start the fifth. Benge lined an RBI single to score his teammate and the Mets’ fifth run.<\/p>\n In the sixth, Bellinger cut the deficit back down to three with a solo shot, but Soto responded with a home run of his own in the seventh. Thornton walked Jones and gave up a single to George Lombard Jr.<\/strong><\/a> in the bottom half of the inning. Yet again, he ended the frame without allowing a run to score.<\/p>\n Marcus Semien<\/strong><\/a> lined a single and A.J. Ewing<\/strong><\/a> drew a walk in the eighth. Torrens scored Semien with an RBI double to left field. Morabito drew a walk to load the bases. With runners in scoring position, Lindor delivered a grand slam to right. This increased the Mets’ lead to nine.<\/p>\n Young crushed a home run in the ninth to put the Mets ahead by 10. Myers gave up a single to Ramos in the ninth, but struck out Jones and Lombard to seal the win.<\/p>\n Lindor went 3-for-5 with five RBI and two home runs. His grand slam in the eighth marked his 22nd homer of the season and his eighth in Subway Series history. Young provided three hits and a home run of his own, while Soto had two hits and a home run. Torrens had two hits and three RBI with a home run, as Benge had two hits and two RBI. In the total, the Mets recorded 13 hits and 12 RBI.<\/p>\n Thornton, on the other hand, struck out four batters in seven innings to earn his fourth win. Myers, meanwhile, sealed the win with two strikeouts in the ninth.<\/p>\n Thornton gave up an RBI single to Bellinger in the fourth and a solo home run to the veteran outfielder in the sixth.<\/p>\n With the Subway Series tied, both teams need one more win to claim the series. Right-hander Christian Scott<\/a><\/strong> (4-4, 3.81 ERA) will start for the Mets against right-hander Cam Schlittler<\/a><\/strong> (13-6, 2.02 ERA) of the Yankees.
