The New York Mets<\/a> honored all-time great outfielder Carlos Beltran<\/strong><\/a> by retiring his No. 15 before the start of Saturday\u2019s game against the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> at Citi Field. The ceremony was held after Beltran was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26 with his plaque in Cooperstown featuring a Mets cap.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m grateful for everything. When you look back, there\u2019s moments that happened in order for you to grow and that\u2019s life. Because of the moments that happened here, I\u2019m better in every aspect and I want to use the experience to continue to share it with the next generation and all the people that might be feeling the same way,\u201d Beltran said.<\/p>\n

Carlos Beltran Mets Tenure<\/h4>\n

Beltran joined the Mets in 2005 and became an integral member of their franchise. He put together his best season in 2006 with 140 hits, 41 home runs and 116 RBI on a .275 average. His efforts helped the Mets reach the 2006 NLCS and he came fourth in NL MVP voting.<\/p>\n

Carlos Beltran played more than four more seasons with the Mets and made three more All-Star appearances. His tenure in Queens came to an end when the team traded him to the San Francisco Giants<\/a> on July 28, 2011. Overall, he totaled 878 hits, 149 home runs and 559 RBI across those seven seasons. He is the third player in franchise history to eclipse that milestone.<\/p>\n

Other Conversations<\/h4>\n

In 2019, the Mets hired Beltran to be their new manager. A new chapter was set to begin, until Beltran resigned from the position due to his involvement in the Houston Astros<\/a> 2019 sign stealing scandal. Fast forward to 2026, and the front office have had conversations with him about becoming their new manager.<\/p>\n

The team fired Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a> in June and replaced him with Andy Green<\/strong><\/a>. Carlos Beltran serves as a special assistant to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns. Green has found some success in the role. Still, he plans on returning to the front office after the conclusion of this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a manager in Major League Baseball is a huge commitment. I\u2019m not saying that I\u2019m not willing to take that commitment, but right now, I love to be a dad. I love to be a husband. I love to be involved in the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico. Being a manager, you would not be able to do that full-time,\u201d Beltran said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith that being said, that decision, I will let the Mets go through the process. I think Stearns understands that, there\u2019s going to be a search. I hope with that being said that with whatever step forward we do, I know it\u2019s going to be for the benefit of the organization,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
