The New York Mets<\/a> announced Tuesday that they have named Andy Green<\/a> <\/strong>to be their new manager, signing him to a three-year contract with six games left in the regular season. President of Baseball Operations David Stearns appointed Green to be the interim manager after firing Carlos Mendoza<\/strong><\/a> in June. Stearns had made it clear that Green planned to rejoin<\/a> the Mets front office after the conclusion of this season and that he would hire a new manager. However, those plans have changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the course of the season, it became evident that the next manager of the Mets was already in place,\u201d Stearns said in a statement. \u201cAndy has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and a unique ability to forge connections with our emerging core of distinguished veterans. I look forward to continuing our great partnership as we turn toward the 2027 season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy Green Helps Mets<\/h4>\n

The Mets struggled through the first half of this season. With Mendoza at the helm for the first three months, they went on a 12-game losing streak. The club lost another six consecutive matchups ahead of when Stearns fired Mendoza.<\/p>\n

Appointing Andy Green as the interim manager caused some changes. For starters, the Mets went on two separate four-game winning streaks in August. Additionally, he has formed strong relationships with many of the team veterans and rookies who are blossoming into rising stars.<\/p>\n

Overall, Green has led the Mets to a 37\u201338 record. They are 31\u201328 since the All-Star Break going into Tuesday\u2019s series opener against the Texas Rangers<\/a>. The decision was made as the Mets are no longer in contention for a playoff spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndy has connected with and pushed our players to perform, despite the disappointment of the season,\u201d Mets owners Steve Cohen and Alex Cohen said in a statement. \u201cOver the last several months he has brought discipline, accountability and positivity to the clubhouse, attributes we were seeking in our next manager.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I accepted the interim role, I didn\u2019t anticipate it becoming permanent, but the more time I spent with our players and staff, the clearer it became that this is where my passion and experience could make the greatest impact,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n
