With the offseason in full swing, 12-year veteran Mariano Duncan<\/strong><\/a> is joining the New York Mets<\/a> coaching staff of manager Andy Green<\/strong><\/a>. Duncan spent the last two seasons as a bench coach for the Mets\u2019 Double-A minor league affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He was also an infield coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> from 2006-2010. The Mets announced his hiring on Monday.<\/p>\n

Joining Mets Coaching Staff<\/h4>\n

After coming in last in the NL East with a 74\u201388 record in 2026, the Mets addressed their coaching staff at the start of the offseason. That started with the dismissal of hitting coach Jeff Albert while retaining hitting coach Troy Snitker<\/a><\/strong> and assistant Rafael Fernandez. They also parted ways with assurance coach Danny Barnes<\/strong><\/a> and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney, who could remain with the organization in different roles. Albert was the most prominent member because he joined the club in 2022 as director of hitting development.<\/p>\n

Duncan joins the Mets coaching staff with experience from his time as the Dodgers\u2019 infield coach. He also has some familiarity with the Mets from being a bench coach for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Before transitioning to coaching, he spent 12 seasons in the majors with four different franchises from 1985\u20131997. Duncan won his first World Series title with the Cincinnati Reds<\/a> in 1990 and his second with the New York Yankees<\/a> in 1996. He was also an All-Star in 1994 as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>. Overall, he has recorded 1,247 hits, 491 RBI and 87 home runs with 174 stolen bases in 1,279 appearances.<\/p>\n

Lost Interest<\/h4>\n

As an addition was made to the Mets coaching staff, the team has lost interest in hiring Kevin Long<\/strong><\/a> and John Mallee<\/strong><\/a> to a position. The team held conversations with Long about receiving a position in the hitting department. However, he is no longer in consideration for the position due to both sides being unable to find a match. The team considered him a candidate since he is a 20-year veteran who was once the Mets hitting coach from 2015-2017.<\/p>\n

Mallee, on the other hand, intends to remain with the Chicago Cubs<\/a> as an assistant hitting coach. He was also in consideration to join Green\u2019s staff because of how he assisted the Cubs in leading the league in OPS (.767), slugging percentage (.428), RBI (804) and runs (850) in 2026.<\/p>\n
