Texas Rangers<\/a> right-hander Glenn Otto<\/a><\/strong> will be shut down for three weeks, the team announced on Saturday. Otto, who recently underwent an MRI for right lat tightness, will be re-examined by Dr. Keith Meister on Monday. Even though Otto wasn\u2019t likely to make the club\u2019s Opening Day roster, it\u2019s still a notable loss. Their starting depth will be effected due to his injury.<\/p>\n

Otto’s 2022 Campaign<\/h2>\n

The 27-year old right-hander made 27 starts for the Rangers last year, posting a 4.64 ERA. He might have actually been lucky to keep runs off the board at that pace. His 18.2% strikeout rate and 10.6% walk rate were both subpar, while his .255 batting average on balls in play was well below the .289 league average. The club pushed him down the depth chart with a busy offseason, acquiring Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Nathan Eovaldi<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Andrew Heaney<\/a><\/strong> and Jake Odorizzi<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is nearly impossible for a team to go through a full major league season with just five starting pitchers. This means that at some point, depth options will be used. As for Glenn Otto, he still has a full slate of minor league options, allowing the club to keep a guy with notable major league experience in Triple-A. Now he seems ticketed for an extended absence. Even if a three-week shutdown period helps him recover from his injury, he would then have to ramp back up at that point. This is why a trip to the 60-day IL seems to be on the table.<\/p>\n

Other Injury Updates<\/h2>\n

Another notable Rangers pitcher who is dealing with an injury is righty Jake Odorizzi. He is dealing with arm fatigue and expected to start the season on the injured list. Elsewhere on the club\u2019s pitching front,\u00a0Kennedi Landry of MLB.com<\/a>\u00a0reports that righty\u00a0Joe Barlow<\/a><\/strong> has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Also, Dominic Leone<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0has been released from his minor league deal, according to the\u00a0transactions tracker<\/a>\u00a0at MLB.com.<\/p>\n
