Diamondbacks at Cardinals Pregame \u2014 April 18, 2023<\/h2>\n

ST. LOUIS, Apr. 18 \u2014 It\u2019s Game Two of a three-game set between the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> and St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, which is also the fifth game of a six-game road trip for the Diamondbacks. Prior to the game, manager Torey Lovullo<\/a><\/strong> met with the media on hand.<\/p>\n

Torey Lovullo, Diamondbacks Manager<\/h3>\n

Lovullo never gives a specific pitch count number prior to a game, for strategic purposes, but he did say that you can add 12\u201320 pitches over a pitcher\u2019s prior outing as he gets stretched out for starts. In the last start, Jameson threw 54.<\/p>\n

Jameson\u2019s fastball gets a lot of attention, but his slider has also been \u201cvery consistent,\u201d according to Lovullo. \u201cHe\u2019s able to use it to get back into counts. To me, the 1\u20131, 2\u20131 pitch, when you see a pitcher not utilizing the fastball to get back into counts, you know that he’s doing a lot right. (Drey has) a lot of confidence in that pitch. At times, you’ll see some of our guys use it 3\u20131. Definitely 3\u20132, but Drey is not just a chucker. He’s up there pitching and landing pitches.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joe Mantiply<\/a><\/strong> is back on the active roster and is available tonight. To make room, Luis Frias<\/a><\/strong> has been sent down. Lovullo said Mantiply will be used as another option in the back end, and Lovullo will continue to use the \u201cmatchup\u201d strategy that he feels has been working so far.<\/p>\n

Corbin Carroll<\/a><\/strong> has a scheduled off-day today. The lineup posted earlier that listed him was posted in error. Nothing is wrong with Carroll.<\/p>\n

Cardinals news, not from Lovullo:<\/strong> Infielder Brendan Donovan<\/a><\/strong> has been scratched from the lineup due to a left shin abrasion.<\/p>\n
