PHOENIX, Apr. 21 \u2014The Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> beat the San Diego Padres<\/a>, 9\u20130, behind Zac Gallen<\/a><\/strong> and his pitching gem Friday night in front of 21,308 fans at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix.<\/p>\n Padres starter Seth Lugo<\/a><\/strong> shut down the Diamondbacks for three innings and had three strikeouts through four innings. Gallen had six strikeouts and also showed how sharp he was with his command early on with the defensive swings by the Padres hitters.<\/p>\n To begin the bottom of the fourth, Corbin Carroll<\/a><\/strong> grounded out but Christian Walker<\/a><\/strong> doubled on a sharp fly ball to right. Pavin Smith<\/a><\/strong> walked and Walker made it to third on a wild pitch by Lugo. After Lourdes Gurriel Jr.<\/a><\/strong> lined out the second outs. Gabriel Moreno<\/a><\/strong> singled to score Walker and give the Diamondbacks a 1-0.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks added a run in the fifth after Geraldo Perdomo<\/a><\/strong> struck out, Josh Rojas<\/a><\/strong> singled on a line drive to left. Ketel Marte<\/a><\/strong> followed that up with a solid double on a line drive to right and Rojas easily scored to give them a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks beat the Padres and in the eighth the Padres brought in Luis Garcia<\/a><\/strong> to replace Ray Kerr<\/a><\/strong> who took over in the seventh. Marte singled on a line drive to shortstop Xander Bogaerts<\/a><\/strong>, that was deflected by pitcher Garcia. He would later leave the game after getting hit in the calf by that hit.<\/p>\n Carroll singled on a ground ball to left field, then after Walker lined out to center field Marte moved to third. Gurriel Jr. singled to score Marte and move Carroll to second to make it 3-0.<\/p>\n Smith walked and that put Carroll on third with Jake McCarthy<\/a><\/strong> who came in to run for Gurriel Jr. moved to second. Moreno singled to score Carroll and McCarthy to make it 5\u20130. Pitching change Reiss Knehr<\/a><\/strong> replaced Garcia. Alek Thomas<\/a><\/strong> walked to load the bases and Perdomo doubled scoring both Smith and Moreno to make it 7-0. Rojas grounded out, but Thomas scored and the ninth run came when Marte singled in Perdomo.<\/p>\n After Miguel Castro<\/a><\/strong> came in to pitch the eighth, he set the Padres down in order on 13 pitches. Joe Mantiply<\/a><\/strong> came in to finish the game with three up and three down to end the game and a Diamondbacks win.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks beat the Padres and a couple of interesting stats from the game. Zac Gallen won his third game had 11 strikeouts on only two hits and lowered his ERA to 2.59. His scoreless streak is now at 21 2\/3 innings. Geraldo Perdomo is hitting .400 on the year but is 7-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Fernando Tatis Jr.<\/a><\/strong> got his first hit of the season in the sixth inning, a line-drive single to center. He had started 0-for-7.<\/p>\n The Padres (10\u201312) and Diamondbacks (12\u20139) will play game three of their four-game series Saturday. Joe Musgrove<\/a><\/strong> will take the mound for the Padres against Merrill Kelly<\/a><\/strong> in a battle of right-handers.
