Boston Red Sox<\/a> closer Kenley Jansen<\/strong><\/a> became the seventh member of the 400 save club with his save in the Red Sox’ win over his former club, the Atlanta Braves<\/a>. Jansen, the long-time closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>, worked the ninth inning allowing a double to Eddie Rosario<\/strong><\/a> and struck out Travis d’Arnaud<\/a><\/strong> to seal the 5\u20132 victory. Jansen, 35, was born in Curacao. The Dodgers signed him as a catcher as an undrafted free agent in 2004.<\/p>\n

They switched him to a reliever, and he made his Major League debut in 2010. He collected 350 saves over his 12 years for the Boys in Blue. Jansen had an additional 41 saves for the Braves in 2022. He signed with Boston in the offseason on a two-year deal. In his first year with the Red Sox, he is 9\/10 with a 0.77 ERA. In his career, Jensen has 400 saves, and an ERA of 2.44. Most of his success is attributed to his cutter, and scouts have noticed more break on it this season.<\/p>\n

Jansen Joins Elite Company<\/h4>\n

With his 400th save, he joins Mariano Rivera<\/strong><\/a> (652 saves), Trevor Hoffman<\/strong><\/a> (601), Lee Smith<\/a><\/strong> (478), Francisco Rodr\u00edguez<\/a><\/strong> (437), John Franco<\/strong><\/a> (424), and Billy Wagner<\/strong><\/a> (422) in the 400-save club. Janson is the only active member of the 400 save club. Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> pitcher Craig Kimbrel<\/strong><\/a> is the next closest member with 397 saves.<\/p>\n

Boston wins 5-3<\/h4>\n

Boston took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Atlanta came back to tie it in the sixth with the help of a long home run by Ronald Acuna Jr.<\/a><\/strong> Boston went ahead for good in the seventh and added one in the ninth on a home run by rookie Tristan Castas. This set up the bottom of the ninth for Jansen. He got catcher Sean Murphy<\/a><\/strong> to fly out to center. Rosario hit a long double, followed by second baseman Ozzie Albies<\/strong><\/a> flying out. d’Arnaud swung and missed to end it.<\/p>\n
