The Los Angeles Angels<\/a> have made another trade, this time with the Colorado Rockies<\/a>. They traded for Mike Moustakas<\/strong><\/a> in exchange for pitching prospect Connor Van Scoyoc<\/strong><\/a>. The deal, which is now official, was first reported by Robert Murray of Fansided<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What the Angels Get<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Los Angeles Angels are getting and an old-hand, 13-year veteran in Moustakas, who was having a decent season with the Rockies. In 47 games, he was hitting .270 while playing first and third, along with some starts at DH. He can also play second base if needed.<\/p>\n

Veteran Leader<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Moustakas is heralded as a veteran leader, and will quickly earn the admiration and respect of his new teammates. As a player, he commands the values of the clubhouse culture, camaraderie, and friendship. Former players have mentioned that he likes to hang out, and get to know players on and off the field and away from the clubhouse.<\/p>\n

Joins a Winning Team<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Moustakas joins a winning team, a team looking to reach the postseason for the first time since 2014. With 44 games and 182 at-bats of postseason experience, Moustakas will be counted on to provide some leadership and do what it takes to make it to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Yes, there are still 80+ games to play, but right now the Angels are tied for the last Wild Card spot in the American League. They were looking for infield depth after injuries to Zach Neto<\/a><\/strong>, Anthony Rendon<\/strong><\/a> and Gio Urshela<\/strong><\/a>. Moustakas give them that.<\/p>\n

Second Move<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This is the second move in as many days for the Angels. On Friday, they traded for Eduardo Escobar<\/strong><\/a>, another infielder who will provide depth and is regarded as an excellent clubhouse guy. Escobar started at third base on Saturday and went 2-for-4 with a walk and four runs scored.<\/p>\n

What the Rockies Receive<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In the deal, the Rockies received Van Scoyoc, who went in the 11th round of the 2018 MLB draft. Scoyoc underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019 and then did not play in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was a starting pitcher for the High-A Tri-City. He has a 2.76 ERA in 62 innings, and started 11 games with a 4\u20133 record. Overall, he has gone 17\u201313 with a 4.40 ERA in 58 career Minor League appearances, with 46 starts.<\/p>\n

More Rockies Moves<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This might just be the start of many moves for the Rockies. They have the worst record in the National League. They have many veterans that a contending team(s) might inquire about. Ranked 15th in the Majors, their farm system needs help.<\/p>\n
