The top two teams in our bullpen\/reliever\/relief corps rankings have remained the same, but there has been shuffling everywhere else. We have a new #30 for the first time since these rankings first appeared.<\/p>\n<p>These rankings are not interested in what some guy in the minors did back in April before he was sent down. We want to see whose current relief roster is the toughest. That will be most useful when watching and analyzing games.<\/p>\n<p>Rankings are split into the following categories. These categories encompass <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/2023\/04\/03\/best-reliever-stats-out-there\/\">what a relief pitcher\u2019s jobs are<\/a> and are weighted according to importance. We don\u2019t want to get bogged down, so we\u2019ll keep it brief. <em>(Author\u2019s Note: For full details, leave a comment and I\u2019ll be glad to get back to you.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Clutch<\/strong> (45% of score) \u2014 How well they perform in late innings either while the game is tied or while holding a narrow lead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Run Prevention<\/strong> (35%) \u2014 How well they keep runs off the board, including inherited runners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baserunner Prevention<\/strong> (13%) \u2014 Who has the lowest WHIP and lowest home run percentage (HR%). WHIP is 85% of the Baserunner Prevention score, and HR% is 15%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Command<\/strong> (7%) \u2014 Who has the best strikeout percentage minus walk percentage (K\u2013BB%).<\/p>\n<p>The total score in each category is based on the league average. Zero points equals the league average. Positive scores are better than league average; negative scores are worse. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/2023\/07\/14\/reliever-roundup-bullpen-bonanza-individual-rankings-20230714\/\">here<\/a> to see them.)<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>The Elite<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/brewers\/\"><strong>Milwaukee Brewers<\/strong><\/a><strong> (68.9, First in NL), No Change from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>142.1 Clutch, 9.8 Run Prevention, 11.4 Baserunners, 1.2 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Their hitting is abysmal, yet they\u2019re only a game back for the NL Central lead. True, it\u2019s a weak division, but the Brewers rarely lose when protecting narrow leads late in the game. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/milneho01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hoby Milner<\/a><\/strong> is a top-ten NL middle reliever. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/payamjo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joel Payamps<\/a><\/strong> is the top setup man in the league, with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pegueel01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Elvis Peguero<\/a><\/strong> also in the top ten. And <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=willide03,willia005dev&amp;search=Devin+Williams&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Devin Williams<\/a><\/strong> is among the best closers.<\/p>\n<p>The Brewers keep runs off the board, with an NL-leading 80.0% scoreless percentage. They\u2019re second best in the NL when it comes to keeping inherited runners from scoring (24.0%). Their ERA-minus is a mind-boggling 58, best in the majors. WHIP? Lowest in the NL, at 1.101. They are eighth in K\u2013BB%, so that could improve, but it clearly isn\u2019t hurting them very much.<\/p>\n<h4>Better Take an Early Lead\u2026<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/pirates\/\"><strong>Pittsburgh Pirates<\/strong><\/a><strong> (25.5, Second in NL), No Change from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>54.1 Clutch, 2.5 Run Prevention, 2.4 Baserunners, -1.2 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second-best relief corps in the majors also comes from the NL Central \u2014 the Pittsburgh Pirates. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bednada01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">David Bednar<\/a><\/strong> is the top NL closer according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/2023\/07\/14\/reliever-roundup-bullpen-bonanza-individual-rankings-20230714\/\">individual relief rankings<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holdeco01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Colin Holderman<\/a><\/strong> is a top-ten setup man. The fact that the Diamondbacks scored off both of them in their dramatic come-from-behind victory Saturday was nothing short of shocking. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/perdoan01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Angel Perdomo<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/moretda01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dauri Moreta<\/a><\/strong> have been outstanding in middle relief. Their strong clutch score \u2014 54.1, second in the majors \u2014 is carrying them. Also helping is their home run rate of 1.9%, tops in the NL.<\/p>\n<p>They are slightly below average in command and slightly above average in both run prevention and baserunners. Improving any of these will make a great unit even better.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/orioles\/\"><strong>Baltimore Orioles<\/strong><\/a><strong> (22.1, First in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25b2<\/strong><strong> +2 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>32.6 Clutch, 8.1 Run Prevention, 14.1 Baserunners, 38.6 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have a new AL leader in the Baltimore Orioles. It\u2019s not hard to see why, as All-Stars <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/canoye01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Yennier Cano<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bautife01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Felix Bautista<\/a><\/strong> are as formidable a 1\u20132 punch as anyone in the league right now. The biggest shock of the All-Star Game was probably <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/diazel01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Elias Diaz<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s home run off Bautista, the Orioles&#8217; closer. After all, Bautista\u2019s home run percentage is 1.8% and his K\u2013BB% is 39.4%. His strikeout percentage is an ungodly 50.9%. He and Cano both have a scoreless percentage in the 90s, as does middle reliever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/couloda01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Danny Coulombe<\/strong><\/a>. They are second in the AL in clutch, fourth in run prevention, first in baserunners, and first in command. The Orioles could use improvement in inherited runners, as their IR% is seventh at 29.8%, only 0.4 percentage points better than league average.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/blue-jays\/\"><strong>Toronto Blue Jays<\/strong><\/a><strong> (20.4, Second in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25b2<\/strong><strong> +4 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>31.6 Clutch, 8.8 Run Prevention, 3.2 Baserunners, 38.0 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays surged four places since last week, climbing to second in the AL. Middle relievers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mayzati01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tim Mayza<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/richatr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trevor Richards<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pearsna01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nate Pearson<\/a><\/strong> are all among the best in the AL. So is closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/romanjo03.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jordan Romano<\/a><\/strong>. However, setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/swanser01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Erik Swanson<\/a><\/strong> is having the best season of everyone listed.<\/p>\n<p>The area where the Blue Jays could use the most improvement is home run percentage. It comes in slightly higher than league average, hurting their baserunner rating.<\/p>\n<h4>The Very Good<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/mariners\/\"><strong>Seattle Mariners<\/strong><\/a><strong> (18.5, Third in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25bc -1 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>27.3 Clutch, 9.3 Run Prevention, 6.6 Baserunners, 29.7 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite improving in three of the four categories, the Mariners slid one spot in the rankings. This is because they dropped in clutch, the most heavily weighted category, due to a dip in their GE\/BE ratio. Middle reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/speiega01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gabe Speier<\/a><\/strong> and closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sewalpa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Paul Sewald<\/a><\/strong> are in the AL Top Ten for individual reliever ratings. Setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/topaju01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Justin Topa<\/a><\/strong> is also ranking high, coming in 11th.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/yankees\/\"><strong>New York Yankees<\/strong><\/a><strong> (14.8, Fourth in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25b2<\/strong><strong> +3 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>29.5 Clutch, 2.9 Run Prevention, 7.8 Baserunners, -6.3 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Yankees have fired their hitting coach, but their relief corps is in good shape. Their clutch score improved by over 12 points, more than overtaking their drops in the other three categories. Setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/peralwa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wandy Peralta<\/a><\/strong> has had effective results, albeit in a bend-but-don\u2019t-break manner. Closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmecl01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Clay Holmes<\/a><\/strong>, however, has been outstanding in the first half, ranking in the top five of all AL closers.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/guardians\/\"><strong>Cleveland Guardians<\/strong><\/a><strong> (14.1, Fifth in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25bc -1 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>23.3 Clutch, 9.1 Run Prevention, 5.4 Baserunners, -3.8 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Guardians find themselves in the same boat as the Mariners, improving in three categories while dropping clutch, the category with the greatest weight. They are well-equipped for the stretch run, however. Closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claseem01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Emmanuel Clase<\/a><\/strong>, setup men <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/delosen01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Enyel De Los Santos<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stephtr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trevor Stephan<\/a><\/strong>, and Middle Reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/morgael01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eli Morgan<\/a><\/strong> all rank either seventh or eighth in the AL Top Ten for their roles.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/tigers\/\"><strong>Detroit Tigers<\/strong><\/a><strong> (13.6, Sixth in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25b2<\/strong><strong> +2 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>35.0 Clutch, -4.3 Run Prevention, -1.5 Baserunners, -6.3 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Tigers have the top clutch score in the American League. However\u2026they are below average in every other category, with the biggest blow coming in run prevention. Translation: their back end is excellent. Their middle relief is not. Expect to see closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/langeal01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Alex Lange<\/a><\/strong> and setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/foleyja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jason Foley<\/a><\/strong> in a lot of trade rumors over the next three weeks. <em>(Note: We\u2019re not saying they <\/em>will<em> be traded, simply that they\u2019ll be talked about.)<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/phillies\/\"><strong>Philadelphia Phillies<\/strong><\/a><strong> (13.4, Third in NL), <\/strong><strong>\u25b2<\/strong><strong> +4 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>29.0 Clutch, -3.1 Run Prevention, 1.2 Baserunners, 18.0 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Phillies closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kimbrcr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Craig Kimbrel<\/a><\/strong>, who closed out the NL victory in the All-Star Game Tuesday night, is on quite a run. He has given up a run only once in his last 17 outings, dating back to June 1. That came on June 8, giving him a current streak of 13 straight scoreless appearances. This has helped boost the Phillies, who have made a remarkable climb in the rankings over the same time span. On May 25, two weeks before this column first ran, the Phillies were 13th in the NL. They are now third. Truly remarkable. Their strengths are clutch and command. They are slightly below average in run prevention and slightly above average in baserunners. Should one or both categories improve, watch out.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/giants\/\"><strong>San Francisco Giants<\/strong><\/a><strong> (11.4, Fourth in NL), <\/strong><strong>\u25bc -3 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>25.6 Clutch, -2.8 Run Prevention, 2.6 Baserunners, 7.5 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Giants have fallen in clutch and command but improved in run prevention and baserunners. Their main horses are the Rogers twins, middle reliever Taylor and setup man Tyler, as well as closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dovalca01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Camilo Doval<\/a><\/strong>. Doval, of note, earned the win Tuesday night in the All-Star Game. For the second half, the Giants need to improve their run prevention. In scoreless outing percentage, they are third from the bottom in the NL.<\/p>\n<h4>Slightly above Average<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/marlins\/\"><strong>Miami Marlins<\/strong><\/a><strong> (10.7, Fifth in NL), <\/strong><strong>\u25bc -8 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>20.3 Clutch, 0.0 Run Prevention, 4.8 Baserunners, 13.7 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tough week for the Marlins, causing them to plummet from third to eleventh. What hurt them were drops in the two categories with the heaviest weights, clutch and run prevention. Seventh-inning setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/florody01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dylan Floro<\/a><\/strong> gave up runs in both his appearances of the week. Closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pukaj01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">A.J. Puk<\/a><\/strong> had four appearances, putting up goose eggs in the first and last and broken eggs in the second and third. Despite the setbacks, Floro and Puk are both in the NL top-ten for their respective roles. If the Marlins improve their run prevention score in the coming week, look for them to rebound. They have two middle relievers in the NL Top Ten, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/ginkeke01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kevin Ginkel<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nelsoky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kyle Nelson<\/a><\/strong>. Closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/graveke01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kendall Graveman<\/a><\/strong> is in the AL Top Ten, yet the team <em>still<\/em> has this low of an overall score. Hard times on the Southside, indeed.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"21\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/twins\/\"><strong>Minnesota Twins<\/strong><\/a><strong> (-6.7, 11th in AL), No Change from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>-12.7 Clutch, -1.5 Run Prevention, -0.1 Baserunners, -6.3 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Their clutch improved slightly, but it wasn\u2019t enough to offset the declines in the other three categories. Even though their standing in the AL and overall stayed the same, their overall score declined. All this <em>despite<\/em> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranjh01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jhoan Duran<\/a><\/strong> ranking seventh overall among AL closers. Middle reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewabr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brock Stewart<\/a><\/strong>, whose injury instantly knocked the Twins down seven spots on the leaderboard, should return within the next few days. It won\u2019t come a moment too soon, as he is atop the AL leaderboard for middle relievers.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"22\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sportrelay.com\/mlb\/category\/angels\/\"><strong>Los Angeles Angels<\/strong><\/a><strong> (-7.6, 12th in AL), <\/strong><strong>\u25bc -6 from Last Week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>-6.6 Clutch, -8.1 Run Prevention, -6.3 Baserunners, -13.3 Command<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This has been a disastrous month for the seemingly snakebit Angels. They\u2019ve won once since June 27. Since their victory on Father\u2019s Day, June 18, they\u2019ve lost 13 of 17. Granted, a rash of injuries to key players is the main culprit, but the \u2018pen has not helped matters. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/estevca01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carlos Estevez<\/a><\/strong>, ranked sixth in the AL, has remained as dependable a closer as they come, but he can\u2019t do it alone. The imminent return of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=moorema02,moore-007mat,moore-006mat&amp;search=Matt+Moore&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Matt Moore<\/a><\/strong>, the third-ranked setup man in the AL, will be a (bad pun alert) welcome relief to the unit. However, these two categories carry the lowest weight. Unfortunately for their score, they are below average in run prevention and significantly below average in the category with the highest weight \u2014 clutch. Their two best relievers \u2014 closer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alzolad01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Adbert Alzolay<\/a><\/strong> and setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leitema02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mark Leiter Jr.<\/a><\/strong>\u2014 still aren\u2019t in the top ten despite their WHIPs being below 1.000. Largely responsible for this is their run prevention, which is right at league average. Setup man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/finneky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=sportrelay.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-07-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kyle Finnegan<\/a><\/strong> is still having a nice season, ranking ninth among NL setup men. His name will assuredly pop up in trade rumors between now and the trade deadline. They have the second lowest scoreless outing percentage in the NL. In addition, they have the highest WHIP in the NL and the lowest K\u2013BB%.
