The Cleveland Guardians<\/a> have made a few moves to their starting rotation. The biggest move being Shane Bieber<\/a><\/strong> to the 60-day IL due to right elbow inflammation. The Guardians also purchased the minor league contract of Daniel Norris<\/a><\/strong>. To make room on both the 26 and 40-man rosters, Cleveland sent Tim Herrin<\/strong><\/a> to Triple-A Columbus.<\/p>\n

Down Goes Bieber, Again<\/h4>\n

Shane Bieber was already on the 15-day IL. His retroactive placement started on the July 12. His new 60-day window started that same day. This means Bieber will be out through September 10 at the least. This move makes it evident that Bieber needed a lot more than 15 days to recover. This move solidifies that Bieber will remain a Guardian through the trade deadline. In fact, he could be shut down for the remainder of the season if his club is out of the playoff race come mid-September. At 49\u201350, the Guardians are only a game and a half behind the Minnesota Twins<\/a> in the AL Central, and five and a half games behind the last AL wild card spot.<\/p>\n

Daniel Norris<\/h4>\n

Daniel Norris can certainly be brought into the mix as a good starting pitcher for the club. He started 12 of his 18 games for Triple-A Columbus. Norris had his contract selected last month, and played in one game. The Guardians may use his veteran presence to pair with starting rookies, Logan Allen<\/a><\/strong>, Tanner Bibee<\/a><\/strong>, and Gavin Williams<\/a><\/strong>. Several rookie pitchers have been forced to step up in the absence of starters Bieber. Those rookis are Triston McKenzie<\/a><\/strong>, and Cal Quantrill<\/strong><\/a>. Promising rookie Peyton Battenfield<\/a><\/strong> is also set to return soon from the 60-day IL. Having Norris around will definitely help with good depth in the Guardians’ rotation. However, Norris has a 5.60 ERA in 53 innings with Triple-A Columbus this season. It will be interesting to see how the Guardians uses their bullpen over these next couple of months.<\/p>\n
