The Texas Rangers<\/a> have made another splash, adding left-hander Jordan Montgomery<\/a><\/strong> in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>. News of the deal was first reported by ESPN\u2019s Jeff Passan<\/a>. This is the fourth trade that the Rangers have made in less than a week. On Friday, they acquired catcher Kevin Plawecki<\/strong><\/a> in a deal<\/a> with the San Diego Padres<\/a>. Their biggest move to date came on Saturday when they made a blockbuster trade<\/a> with the New York Mets<\/a> for three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer<\/a><\/strong>. They also traded<\/a> left-handed reliever Taylor Hearn<\/a><\/strong> to the Atlanta Braves<\/a> earlier in the week.<\/p>\n

Trade Specifics<\/h4>\n

The trade will send Montgomery and Chris Stratton<\/a><\/strong> to Arlington. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will receive left-hander John King<\/a><\/strong>, as well as infield prospect\u00a0Thomas Saggese<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and right-handed pitching prospect\u00a0Tekoah Roby<\/a><\/strong>. With the Cardinals in seller mode, Montgomery and Stratton were seen as two of the likeliest players to be moved prior to the deadline, as both pitchers are free agents after the season.<\/p>\n

Between this exchange with the Rangers and the Cardinals\u2019 move to send Jordan Hicks<\/a><\/strong> to the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> earlier Sunday afternoon, it\u2019s fair to guess that Jack Flaherty<\/a><\/strong> might also soon be headed elsewhere. St. Louis could also look to some surplus position players as they look to reload for 2024.<\/p>\n

Eovaldi Headed to IL<\/h4>\n

This move is most likely in response to Nathan Eovaldi<\/strong><\/a> going on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. He was diagnosed with a forearm strain. Eovaldi hasn\u2019t pitched since July 18 against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> at Globe Life Field. It\u2019s an ominous diagnosis for a pitcher who already has two Tommy John surgeries to his name. While it isn\u2019t clear how serious this strain might be, the Rangers obviously aren\u2019t taking any chances with Eovaldi\u2019s recovery. They also aren’t sure how much their pitching staff can thrive without Eovaldi.<\/p>\n
