The Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> acquire Mark Canha<\/a> from the New York Mets<\/a>. The veteran outfielder will add certain versatility as the Brewers look to hold onto first place in the NL Central. We will see if the Brewers will look to make more trades.<\/p>\n

What the Mets get<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In return the Mets get minor-league pitcher Justin Jarvis<\/a>. He has been in the Brewers organization five years and has picked up 23 wins in 76 games started. His fastball comes in at 92-94 and he mixes a splitter and a slider into his arsenal. What he needs to work on is giving up the home run. Jarvis is seen a possible number three or four starter in the big leagues and immediately gives the Mets some pitching depth in their farm system.<\/p>\n

Canha\u2019s Leadership<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Milwaukee Brewers acquire Mark Canha, who will provide some veteran leadership. In 89 games this season, the right-handed-hitter is batting .245 with six home runs and 29 runs batted in. He is an excellent hitter with runners in scoring position as well.<\/p>\n

Canha has played both corner outfield spots, but will see time at first base and DH. He certainly adds veteran expertise with being in a playoff chase and will provide guidance for the younger players to deal with the daily grind and help them stay focused.<\/p>\n

Postseason Experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As mentioned, Canha brings his postseason experience\u2014with the Oakland Athletics<\/a> in 2018, 2019 and 2020 as well as with the Mets last season. Yes, the Brewers have many players on the roster with playoff experience, but because there is no predicting how a team will perform in postseason baseball, you can never have enough veteran playoff experience when it comes down to the wire. They\u2019ve lived through the ups and downs and know how the nerves and stress can get the better of a player if he lets it. Their leadership only helps teams as they advance.<\/p>\n

Brewers are not Done<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As for moves, it looks as though the Brewers are not done. They acquired infielder Carlos Santana<\/a> from the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> last week. The trade was a good move, but they have more on their to-do list\u2014and GM Matt Arnold will be looking for more deals that will better the team as they head down the stretch.<\/p>\n

The team could still use pitching, a difficult proposition with multiple teams also looking for pitching. The Brewers will have to decide if they want to give up one of their top prospects for a rental player and whether it will be worth it in the long run.<\/p>\n

Lead the Division <\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Milwaukee Brewers acquire Mark Canha and this team, quietly\u2014and maybe even puzzling\u2014just keeps winning. The NL Central Division race is heating up and what they need to avoid is late season injuries. That happened with outfielder Christian Yelich<\/a> in 2019 and pitcher Devin Williams<\/a> last season. If they can avoid that, there is no reason why the Brewers can\u2019t win out, capture the division, and make a good run to the World Series.<\/p>\n
