Houston Astros<\/a> second baseman Jose Altuve<\/a> hit a single in the fifth inning against Seattle Mariners<\/a> Logan Gilbert<\/a> for career hit number 2000. He was then thrown out trying to stretch. He becomes the third Astro to hit the mark after Hall of Famers Craig Biggio<\/a> and Jeff Bagwell<\/a>. Both were present at Minute Maid Park for Altuve’s hit.<\/p>\n

Future Hall of Famer<\/h3>\n

Altuve, the 2017 MVP, is a future Hall of Famer in his own right.\u00a0 He signed with the Astros as an amateur free agent in Venezuela in 2007. Called up to the majors in 2011, his first home run was an inside the park in August. 2012 saw Altuve named an All Star for the first time. After the season, he signed a four year. $12.5 million to keep him in Houston. Then in 2014, Altuve became the first Astro to win a batting title when he had 225 hits and a .341 average. He recorded 56 stolen bases and 47 doubles.<\/p>\n

MVP!<\/h3>\n

During 2016, Altuve had 216 hits with a .338 average and a career-high 24 home runs. He finished third in MVP voting.\u00a0 The next year he would win it, hitting .346 with 204 hits, 32 stolen bases, and 24 home runs. He also led the Astros to their first World Series title during that 2017 season.<\/p>\n

World Baseball Classic<\/h3>\n

Altuve played for his native Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic, but suffered a broken thumb after being hit by a pitch. This led to him miss Opening day for the first time in his career. This season he is hitting .325 with nine home runs and has driven in 29.<\/p>\n
