The Chicago White Sox<\/a> have decided to shake up their front office after another rough season.\u00a0 The team announced the dismissal of Vice President Kenny Williams<\/a><\/strong> and General Manager Rick Hahn. The search begins for a new general manager, and it is not quite known how long that might take.<\/p>\n

Team statement<\/h4>\n

Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf released a statement<\/a> Tuesday afternoon:\u00a0 “This is an incredibly difficult decision for me to make because they are both talented individuals with long-term relationships at the White Sox. Ken is like a son to me, and I will always consider him a member of my family. I want to personally thank Ken and Rick for all they have done for the Chicago White Sox, winning the 2005 World Series and reaching the postseason multiple times during their tenures. I have nothing but the greatest respect for them as people and appreciate the commitment and passion for the White Sox they exhibited over the years.”<\/p>\n

Worst Season in Decades<\/h4>\n

The White Sox are currently experiencing their worst season in decades as they enter play with a record of 49\u201376, leaving them 21 games out of a wild card spot. The team was sellers at this past trade deadline selling Pitchers Lucas Giolito<\/a><\/strong>, Lance Lynn<\/a><\/strong>, and Joe Kelly<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Williams: Former GM<\/h4>\n

Williams had been with the team since 1992 serving as the general manager behind the World Champion team of 2005. That win snapped an 88-year drought for the South side. Times have been rough since despite the acquisition of superstars like Luis Robert Jr.<\/a><\/strong>, Tim Anderson<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0 Eloy Jimenez<\/a><\/strong>. Williams stepped down as GM in 2011 with Hahn stepping in to fill the role. He has been in a rebuild since with playoff runs in 2020 and 2021. The team looks to have “a single decision-maker” in the GM chair soon.<\/p>\n
