The New York Yankees<\/a> have acquired All-Star outfielder Juan Soto<\/a> from the San Diego Padres.<\/a> A total of 7 players have been moved with outfielder Trent Grisham<\/a> joining Soto in New York. The Padres receive right-handers\u00a0Michael King<\/a>,\u00a0Jhony Brito<\/a>, Randy Vasquez<\/a>, starting-pitching prospect\u00a0Drew Thorpe<\/a>,\u00a0and catcher\u00a0Kyle Higashioka<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Soto Moved for the Second Time<\/h3>\n

The 25-year-old Soto is moving for the second time in two years after being traded to the Padres from the Washington Nationals<\/a>. He is coming off a strong season where many people expected the Padres to compete for the division. But the Padres spent much of the season struggling instead. He hit .275 with 35 home runs and knocked in 109 RBI for a WAR of 5.5. In his career, he is a 28.6 WAR player while hitting .284 with 160 home runs and almost 500 RBI.<\/p>\n

Grissom Moves<\/h3>\n

Grisham came up to the majors as a top prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> in 2019. He was the 15th overall draft pick in 2015. The Brewers traded him to San Diego after the season. He struggled in 2023 and will hope the change of scenery will help improve his state. He hit .198 with 13 home runs, 50 RBI, and swiped 15 bases.<\/p>\n

A King’s Ransom<\/h3>\n

King heads the return for the Padres. He is a right-handed pitcher who split time between the bullpen and starting rotation for the Yankees in 2023. In his 49 appearances, he pitched to a 2.75 ERA. He posted an ERA of 1.88 in eight starts.<\/p>\n

Vasquez made his major league debut against his new team, the Padres, in 2023 and pitched 11 games for the season, five of which were starts.\u00a0 He went 2-2 with a 2.87 ERA.<\/p>\n

Higashioka played 92 games for the Bronx Bombers, mostly behind the plate. He hit .237 with 10 home runs in 2023. Over his 7 years in New York, he hit .210 with 40 home runs for a WAR of 1.0.<\/p>\n
