The Texas Rangers<\/a> have added free agent right-hander Michael Lorenzen<\/strong><\/a> to their starting rotation. The Rangers and Lorenzen agreed to a one-year deal late Wednesday evening, according to Ken Rosenthal<\/a> of\u00a0The Athletic. <\/em>The deal, which is pending a physical, includes $2.5 million in incentives and maxes out at $7 million. The Rangers have not confirmed the signing.<\/p>\n

Added Depth<\/h4>\n

The Rangers are currently missing some key pieces of their pitching staff. Jacob deGrom<\/strong><\/a>, Max Scherzer<\/strong><\/a>, and Tyler Mahle<\/strong><\/a> are all delayed until at least the summer with various injuries. At the moment, the Rangers’ rotation is headed by Nathan Eovaldi<\/strong><\/a>. Jon Gray<\/a><\/strong>, Andrew Heaney<\/strong><\/a>, Dane Dunning<\/strong><\/a>, and Cody Bradford<\/a><\/strong> are slotted in starting five as well. The addition of Michael Lorenzen gives the Rangers possible depth in the rotation.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old righty has had an interesting career. After making 21 starts as a rookie for the Cincinnati Reds<\/a> in 2015, Lorenzen slid into a relief role for the next five years. Lorenzen also operated as a quasi two-way player. He was both a pitcher and outfielder in college at Cal State\u2013Fullerton. He posted a .710 OPS with seven home runs across 147 plate appearances through 2021. When Lorenzen signed with the Angels prior to the \u201822 season, he reverted back to the rotation, tossing 18 starts with a respectable 4.24 ERA and 3.91 expected ERA.<\/a><\/p>\n
