In the bottom of the second inning, Aaron Judge hit a three-run home run to give the New York Yankees a 3-1 lead over the Chicago White Sox. Judge joins some all-time legends with what was his 50th home run of the year. With that blast, Judge now officially ties Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa for the most 50-home-run seasons in MLB history with four.

A Decade of Greatness

There are only three players in MLB history who have more home runs in their first 10 seasons than Judge. Those men are Ralph Kiner, Eddie Mathews, and Albert Pujols. Judge has been the most prolific home run hitter of the past decade.

In fact, over the last 10 calendar years, Judge has the most home runs out of anyone in that span with 365. Judge played 1,140 games in that span. Schwarber is the closest with 322 home runs, and Schwarber played about 70 more games than Judge in that time frame. Eugenio Suarez (306 homers) and Manny Machado (300 homers) each played roughly 300 more games in that span. Despite this, Judge still has steep leads over all of them.

League-Wide Power

Judge is the fourth player this season to notch 50 home runs, along with Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Schwarber, and Cal Raleigh. Fun fact, this 2025 season ties 1998 and 2001 with the most individual 50-home-run seasons with four. Coincidentally, Sosa and McGwire put up 50 in both of those seasons.

AL MVP Race

Judge and Raleigh are engaged in what many say is a heated two-man race for American League MVP. Raleigh currently has the league lead in home runs with 58. However, Judge might still beat him out for MVP. Judge currently leads the majors in every slash line statistic, those being on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

Only time will tell whether Raleigh, Judge, or someone else wins the AL MVP.
