New York Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon and starting pitcher Max Fried have been announced as Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalists for the 2025 season. McMahon is seeking his first award, while Fried is seeking his fourth. The finalists are the top three finishers in the voting, which occurred in mid-September.

McMahon, acquired at the trade deadline from the Colorado Rockies, stabilized the hot corner for a Yankees team that desperately needed it. After Opening Day starter Oswaldo Cabrera suffered a season-ending ankle injury in May, the Yankees rotated between Oswald Peraza, Jorbit Vivas, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. before acquiring McMahon. The Yankees gave up pitching prospects Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz to acquire him.

In the 54 regular-season games he played for the Yankees, McMahon committed four errors while posting a DWAR of 0.8. His fielding run value of seven also ranked in the 86th percentile.

Fried, who signed with the Yankees for a lefty record $218 million in December, impressed on the mound in 2025. His 2.86 ERA was the eighth best in baseball, and his 19 wins topped all starting pitchers.

However, as good as his pitching was, Fried’s fielding was just as dependable. In his first season with the Yankees, Fried made four errors. He also compiled a range factor of 2.26 and a fielding percentage of .925.

Fried is already a three-time Gold Glove winner, having won three consecutive awards from 2020-2022 with the Atlanta Braves. During those three years, Fried committed three errors while posting a fielding percentage of .941 or higher each season. In 2021, he helped the Braves win their first World Series since 1995.

Announcement of Winners

The winners of the 2025 Gold Glove Awards will be announced on Sunday, November 2. McMahon’s competitors are Matt Shaw of the Chicago Cubs and Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Cincinnati Reds. Fried’s competitors are Luis Severino of the Athletics and Jacob DeGrom of the Texas Rangers.
