Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers and Wade Miley have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, a source has told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal is worth $4.5 million, and contains incentives that could push the total up to $6 million.
Back to Milwaukee
The crafty left-handed pitcher is making his second go-around with the Brewers. After an unsuccessful stint with the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 and 2017. The Orioles declined his 2018 option. The Brewers signed him to a minor league option, and he worked with then pitching coach Derek Johnson on a cutter. Miley credits the guidance and teaching from Johnson that helped get his career back on track.
Effective
Although he was injured, he was still effective in Milwaukee. He won five games and had a 2.57 ERA in 16 starts, and was part of their successful rotation that won NL Central. He started Game 3 of the NLDS, along with Games 2, 5 and 6 of the NLCS.
His Career
For his career, the 36-yearold has a record of 99–94 with a 4.13 ERA, and 1,280 strikeouts in 1618 innings. He has also tossed a no-hitter when he was with the Cincinnati Reds. Wade Miley has been with eight teams in 12 seasons, and has been a fan favorite and popular player with his teammates.
Injuries Last Season
The Milwaukee Brewers and Wade Miley are hoping that he can once again find his old form. Injuries to his elbow, and shoulder limited him to just 37 innings for the Chicago Cubs last year. With those injuries, it may have been a warning sign that the Cubs’ front office thought his health would not hold up, and chose not to negotiate with him.
Back End Starter
Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff are the top starters and Miley could join Aaron Ashby and Eric Lauer as left-handed options at the back of the Brewers’ rotation.
Last year’s injuries make it a challenge to guess what kind of season Miley is going to have. However, the upside is if he stays healthy, he can be a very good contributor as a starter. He could even be a long reliever. The Brewers are hoping he will be ready to help them get back into the playoffs. With Miley’s help, they could even win the NL Central.
