The Boston Red Sox have acquired infielder Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers. In exchange, the Brewers will receive lefty Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton and left-hander prospect Shane Drohan. The Red Sox also receive shortstop Andruw Monasterio and second baseman Anthony Seigler in the deal. This was first reported by Jeff Passan Monday.

Caleb Durbin

Durbin, a 14th round draft pick to the Atlanta Braves in 2021, was traded to the New York Yankees as apart of the Lucas Luetge trade. He sustained numerous injuries in the minor leagues, having nine separate stints on the seven-day injured list in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He eventually got shipped off to the Brewers in the trade that gave the Yankees Devin Williams.

The 25-year-old started the 2025 season with Triple–A Nashville before getting called up on April 18. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored in his debut. He played 136 games in 2025, tallying 11 home runs, 53 runs batted in and an OPS+ of 101. Durbin also finished third in NL Rookie of the Year voting, eventually won by Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.

His baseball savant page is mostly unimpressive on the surface. However, his whiff and strikeout percentage ranks 96th and 98th percentile respectively.

Kyle Harrison

A third-round pick in 2020 out of high-school, Harrison was the No. 1 prospect in the San Francisco Giants system in 2024. He made 24 starts in his official rookie year to a 4.56 ERA. He was sent to the Red Sox in 2025 as apart of the Rafael Devers trade. However, he’d spend most of his tenure there in Triple–A, and make only three starts for the Red Sox in 2025.

David Hamilton

Hamilton was a 28th round pick of the Brewers in 2016. He was traded to the Red Sox when the Brewers acquired Hunter Renfroe. He entered Boston’s top 30 prospect ranking in 2023, and escalating to #22 in 2024. Hamilton was called up early in the 2024 season and played 98 games. In 2025, he played 91 games hitting below the Mendoza Line with a 63 OPS+.

Shane Drohan

Drohan, a fifth-round pick of the Red Sox in the 2020 draft, bookended the top 30 prospect list in 2025 as the No. 30 slot. He had a brief stint with the Chicago White Sox after getting picked by them in the rule five draft in 2023. Unfortunately, Drohan had a tumultuous 2024 season, with a 7.71 ERA in rookie ball, High–A and Triple–A. However, he bounced back in 2025, pitching to a 2.27 ERA in 14 starts with Triple–A Worcester.

Looking Ahead

Most likely, the Red Sox couldn’t manage a trade for Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes. Durbin isn’t a world beater, but he’s a consistent presence at third base, something the Red Sox didn’t have before this trade. He is also under team control for five more seasons.
