Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has signed with the Yokohama DeNA Baystars for $4 million. The news of this deal was first reported by Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. The Baystars are a part of the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization (NPB). The franchise is based in Kanagawa Prefecture, and the team’s home ground is Yokohama Stadium.

Contract Specifics

Trevor Bauer’s deal with the Baystars is for one year and it is worth $4 million. This development comes on the heels of a year-plus suspension and release from the Dodgers. It was unknown if Trevor Bauer would find a team willing to take him on, given the accusations against him of sexual assault from three different women.

There wasn’t a team in major league baseball that was willing to give Bauer a chance, given everything that has happened. The Baystars, on the other hand, gave him an emphatic yes. The deal also includes incentives if he passes the physical. The Dodgers, who officially released Bauer on January 12, are responsible for paying the remainder of his $22.5 million salary for 2023.

It’s Been Awhile

If he is ready by April, it will be the first time in 21 months that Trevor Bauer has pitched in a professional setting. The last major league game that he pitched in came in June of 2021. Bauer has spent the time since then insisting upon his innocence, and fighting a suspension that ultimately spanned about a season and a half. Now, he will get a fresh start with the Yokohama Baystars.

A New Beginning

Bauer has a chance to prolong his baseball career. It will be very interesting to see how he fares, not only to a whole new brand of play on the field, but to an entirely new culture as well. The former NL Cy Young winner has his shot, and now the real work begins.
