Every baseball season has its unforgettable home runs, diving catches and walk-off comebacks. But sometimes the best play of a game belongs to the unsung heroes of baseball, the ballboys. Ballboys don’t get their names in the box score or game summary too often. Yet their quick reactions and sometimes fearless efforts can save the day. The 2025 MLB season gave fans plenty of laughs and gasps on hard-hit balls, but these are the ones that got the applause and are considered the best ballboy highlights of 2025. Each of the top ballboy plays of 2025 is paired with a video so fans can relive the action!
Play 5 – Brewers’ Ballboy Makes a Backhanded Play
June 14, 2025 – A nice backhanded dive by the Milwaukee Brewers ballboy on a Victor Scott II’s rope. It didn’t protect anyone, but still managed to get the job done.
Play 4 – Phillies Ballboy Makes Great Catch

Play 3 – Rays’ Ballboy Makes Barehanded Snag
May 26, 2025 – This play didn’t “save” anyone, but it makes the list for a fine barehanded grab. This play, off the bat of Kameron Misner, was by a ballboy for the Tampa Bay Rays who doesn’t usually see balls hit his way.
Play 2 – Reds’ Ball Boy Makes Great Catch On Liner
May 14, 2025 – Here’s a play that saves a Cincinnati Reds fan from a gutshot. The ballboy snags a Luis Robert Jr. rocket right before it goes into the first row, down the left field line.
Play 1 – Tigers’ Ball Boy Makes Terrific Snag
June 28, 2025 – One of the only plays by a ballboy that you’ll see where the ballboy leaves the field of play for the catch. The catch itself is nice. But the range on this Spencer Torkelson shot and climbing over the barrier are what raise this Detroit Tigers ballboy to number one on the top ballboy plays of 2025.
Bonus Play – Orioles’ Ball Boy’s All-Out Effort
May 14, 2025 – This superb effort on a Ryan Jeffers foul ball didn’t make the list because he didn’t make the play. It made the list because it simply had to be included for the effort of this Baltimore Orioles ballboy. And then a little bit later in the game, he boots another one!
Ballboys rarely make headlines, but these plays show their value and skill. From barehanded grabs to saving fans. Ballboys turned foul balls into SportsCenter highlights. The top ballboy plays of 2025 prove that baseball excitement comes from all over the field. It comes even when a player isn’t the one causing it.
