Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has been named a finalist for a Silver Slugger Award at third base. The finalists were revealed on Thursday, October 23.

Bregman’s 2025

Bregman had an up-and-down season in his first year playing in Fenway Park. In the month of April, Bregman couldn’t be stopped, putting up a 1.089 OPS while hitting seven home runs.

During another successful campaign in May, a late injury changed everything, not just for him, but for the Red Sox. On May 23, in a matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, Bregman exited in the seventh inning due to a lower-body injury.

Bregman would end up missing over a month due to a right quad strain. Although his numbers in July were similar to his May numbers before the injury, that wouldn’t remain the case. Bregman’s OPS went down every month afterward, hitting a season-low .640 OPS in the month of September.

Overall, Bregman wound up with 18 home runs, 28 doubles and 62 RBI in 114 games. His .821 OPS is his highest since 2019, when he finished runner-up to Mike Trout for AL MVP. Bregman’s MVP chances this year are slim to none, considering the 2025 season statistics posted by Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh. Judge led the majors in WAR (9.7), batting average (.331), on-base percentage (.457), slugging (.688), on-base plus slugging (1.144), OPS+ (215), rOBA (.461), Rbat+ (212), and intentional walks (36). Raleigh led the majors in home runs (60), which set the record for most home runs by a catcher and by a switch-hitter.

Free Agency

Bregman may be looking for a new ballclub this offseason, as he opted out of his three-year, $120 million contract after year one. His impact on the team this season hasn’t gone unnoticed in the lineup and in the clubhouse. Even Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow has mentioned it himself.

Bregman has some stiff competition for the Silver Slugger Award. He will be going against Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians.

The American League Silver Slugger Award winners will be announced on November 7 at 6:00 p.m. ET. You can find the livestream on The Baseball Insiders YouTube page or on the MLB Network.
