The Philadelphia Phillies and free agent outfielder Adolis Garcia have agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract. The club has not yet confirmed the signing. Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com first reported this development.

The move comes nearly a week after the Phillies re-signed slugger Kyle Schwarber to a five-year, $150 million contract. Adolis Garcia, 32, was supposed to be in his final year of arbitration eligibility. However, he became a free agent when the Texas Rangers non-tendered him in November.

They moved on from the veteran outfielder after he spent seven seasons with them. In 2023, he played an integral role in helping the Rangers win their first World Series in franchise history. Garcia was named the 2023 World Series MVP for tallying two RBI and a home run. Garcia was also named the 2023 ALCS MVP. Overall, he made two All-Star appearances and was a 2023 Rawlings Gold Glove winner.

What Adolis Garcia Can do for the Phillies

Coming off their fourth straight playoff appearance, the Phillies are looking to compete for a championship. They fell short this year, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers 3–1 in the NLCS. The last time the Phillies won a World Series was in 2008. They reached the championship series in 2022 but fell short of winning it all against the Houston Astros. Garcia and the Rangers took down the Astros in 2023 to reach the World Series.

The Phillies will turn towards Garcia, who can provide a spark offensively. Adolis Garcia had three straight seasons where he hit more than 90 RBI and 25 home runs. His career best in both statistics was in 2023, when he hit 39 home runs and 107 RBI with a .245 average and an .836 OPS. He stole 74 bases across six seasons with the Rangers. Garcia did regress last season, hitting 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 135 games. He will join Bryce Harper, Schwarber and Trea Turner in the Phillies lineup.
