The Miami Marlins are set to acquire right-hander Bradley Blalock from the Colorado Rockies in a trade for minor league righty Jake Brooks. The clubs have yet to confirm the transfer, as Jeff Passan of ESPN first reported Tuesday.

The Rockies designated Blalock for assignment to open up a spot on their 40-man roster following the signing of righty Michael Lorenzen. Blalock spent the past season and a half with the Rockies, posting an 8.25 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 18 starts.

For the Marlins, the trade comes after they dealt Ryan Weathers to the New York Yankees and Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs. From the two trades, the club received multiple prospects, including outfielder Owen Caissie.

Bradley Blalock can help them restructure their lineup with righty Sandy Alcantara at the helm. However, reports suggest the Marlins are exploring trades for the All-Star and CY Young award winner.

What Bradley Blalock Brings

The Boston Red Sox drafted Bradley Blalock in the 32nd round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He spent five seasons in the Red Sox farm system, splitting time between three of their minor league affiliates. At the 2023 trade deadline, Blalock was sent to the Milwaukee Brewers, where he made his major league debut a year later. He was then traded to the Rockies in July 2024.

In six starts with the Rockies, he went 1-3 with a 6.07 ERA. In his first full season at Coors Field, he went 2-6 in 12 starts. Blalock posted a 9.36 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 58 ½ innings.

Rockies Receive Jake Brooks

The Marlins selected Brooks in the 11th round of the 2023 draft out of UCLA. He has yet to make his majors debut, instead spending time with the club’s minor league affiliates.

In three minor league seasons, he holds a 17-12 record with a 3.32 ERA in 44 starts. In three collegiate seasons at UCLA, he went 13-10 in 27 starts with a 4.92 ERA.
