Josh Bell Breaks Open Pitching Duel in Minneapolis

Josh Bell recorded two home runs and four RBI as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Houston Astros 6-3 following a lengthy rain delay.

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Houston Astros 6-3 on Monday night at Target Field after Josh Bell delivered two home runs and four RBI. Tatsuya Imai and Kendry Rojas traded scoreless frames early before Minnesota created separation during the middle innings.

The Twins finished with nine hits as the Astros managed seven. Twins pitching forced two double plays and limited Houston’s offense during key moments.

Astros-Twins Game Summary

The Astros threatened immediately during the first inning after Jeremy Peña reached on a hit by pitch, Isaac Paredes singled, and Yordan Alvarez walked. Kendry Rojas escaped the jam after Christian Walker popped out and Zach Dezenzo lined into an inning-ending double play.

Tatsuya Imai answered with a scoreless bottom half during the opening inning. The right-hander retired the Twins in order and struck out Trevor Larnach swinging.

Minnesota opened the scoring during the second inning after Bell launched a solo home run into center field. The Astros responded with another scoring opportunity during the fifth inning after Brice Matthews reached on a bunt single and Christian Vázquez walked, but Simeon Woods Richardson stranded both runners.

The Twins extended the lead during the fourth inning. Larnach singled into left field before Bell connected on a two-run home run into left, giving Minnesota a 3-0 advantage.

A rain delay paused the game for nearly two hours during the fifth inning after James Outman singled into left field. Before the first pitch following the delay, the Astros trapped Outman in a rundown after a pickoff attempt at first base.

Minnesota added two more runs during the sixth inning after Ryan Jeffers doubled off the right-field wall. Bell later lined an RBI single past Walker at first base before Luke Keaschall added another RBI on a shallow fly ball into left field, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Astros answered during the seventh inning. Matthews walked before Cam Smith reached after being hit by a pitch. Vázquez delivered an RBI single past a diving Brooks Lee before Peña lifted a sacrifice fly into deep right field. Walker later lined an RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Twins added another run during the eighth inning after Victor Caratini walked and eventually scored to push the lead back to three runs. Twins relief pitching secured the final outs during the ninth inning after Taylor Rogers struck out Alvarez looking.

What Went Right for the Astros

Seventh Inning Rally Applied Pressure

The Astros created momentum during the seventh inning after Matthews and Smith reached base to begin the frame. Vázquez, Peña, and Walker each contributed an RBI during the comeback attempt.

Tatsuya Imai Battled Through Traffic

Imai recovered after Bell’s early home run and continued attacking the strike zone through the middle innings. The right-hander stranded multiple runners before the Twins extended the lead during the sixth.

Astros Defense Prevented Additional Damage

The Astros turned an inning-ending double play during the third inning after Austin Martin grounded into trouble. Peña also made a running catch in shallow left field during the seventh inning.
