The Athletics announced on Wednesday that they’ve hired Cam Castro to be their new general manager. Castro previously served as the Milwaukee Brewers’ senior vice president of player development and performance for the past two seasons. He succeeds David Frost, who served as general manager since 2015 before being dismissed in 2026.
The move also comes as the Athletics hired Taylor Smith to be their president of baseball operations in October. The hiring of Castro and Smith signals the beginning of a new chapter before Athletics relocate from Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento to a new ballpark in Las Vegas, which is expected to be completed by 2028.
“Cam will be an awesome addition to the front office and a great partner to me in running this organization,” Smith said. “He has experience and skillsets that will complement me and the very talented people that we already have in the organization. He’s one of the best development minds in the game with a proven track record of building the systems and processes that develop a winner.”

Castro began his career as a throwing trainer at Driveline Baseball in 2016. From there, he joined the Brewers as a minor league pitching coach in 2019. He then climbed the organization’s ladder to become vice president of player development in 2022.
In that role, Cam Castro developed a connection with Brewers general manager and president of baseball operations Matt Arnold. Not long after, he also became a member of Arnold’s inner circle which transformed the Brewers into a perennial playoff contender. With their expertise in roster construction, the Brewers won their first World Series title after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4–1 in the 2026 World Series.
“I’m beyond thankful for John Fisher, Taylor Smith, Ross Bowen and the entire Athletics organization for this opportunity,” Cam Castro said. “The A’s are a historic franchise with an incredible legacy. I look forward to being a part of the next chapter of A’s baseball and developing a team, culture and organization that our fans will be proud of.”
