Cincinnati Reds
The Cincinnati Reds extend David Bell, adding another three years through the 2026 season. Originally hired in October 2018, he was signed to a 3-year contract through the 2021 season. His current two-year deal was set to expire at the end of this season.
Well Deserved
This is a well-deserved deal since Bell, a native of Cincinnati, has become popular with his players and the fans. He has been through challenging times with this organization. Last season, they started an MLB-worst 3-22 before ending up losing exactly 100 games.
This season they were expected to win around 70 to 75 games but have turned the corner under his guidance. After six weeks of ups and downs where they went 26 and 29, the Reds have gotten hot going 31-19 since the start of June and are firmly in the mix for a playoff spot.
Outstanding Communicator
The Cincinnati Reds extend David Bell, who is seen as an outstanding communicator and teacher. The players have commented that he instills confidence in them. Another popular thing Bell has done is created an environment where the players enjoy coming to work every day. He is also there when players are struggling even if it’s just to talk and offer support.
Exciting Talent
Exciting, talented players have finally arrived in the likes of Andrew Abbott, Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain and Spencer Steer. They have been able to use a pieced-together starting rotation for most of the year. And, with one of the top closers in baseball in Alexis Diaz—according to the latest reliever roundup—they have been able to stay in contention for the NL Central.
Pitchers to Return
This team has put themselves in a position to win the NL Central with their hitting and Bell’s leadership and guidance. They expect to have pitchers Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo back in the rotation in the coming weeks. That will help provide some much-needed help because this staff must improve for them to get a playoff appearance.
Front Office Pleased
The Cincinnati Reds extend David Bell, and the front office appears to be pleased with the progress. He has been patient waiting for the prospects to arrive to the big-league team. This extension guarantees continuity with those players. By extending him another three years to see what this team—loaded with some top prospects—can and will do for him, they’re demonstrating confidence in him while giving him a chance to make a real mark on this team.
