The Colorado Rockies will be sellers at the trade deadline but just who will they give up? Currently in last place in the NL West, it has been a season with lots of disappointment for the team. With a farm system ranked number 14 by MLB.com, they will look to see if they can acquire any prospects that will help them immediately.

Made one Trade

They already made a deal with the Atlanta Braves this past week which sent relief pitcher Pierce Johnson in exchange for pitching prospects Tanner Gordon and Victor Vodnik. Both are right handers and Vodnik is a reliever who is expected to help the Rockies as early as next season.

Some Players to Offer

The Colorado Rockies will be sellers and do have some players to offer that playoff contending teams might inquire about. The Rockies front will office have to decide if it is best to trade those players and get at least some type of prospect in return, or risk losing them to free agency at the end of the season.

Randal Grichuk

Randal Grichuk, who started the season on the IL, has performed well since his return. He is hitting .305 in 62 games and has an OPS of .846. He has played all three outfield spots and is seen as a positive locker room guy who brings post-season experience.

Brad Hand

Another player who might get some attention at the deadline is reliever Brad Hand. He has shown he can be very effective against left-handed hitters. He would be a nice piece to a contending bullpen with his 10 games of post season experience. A free agent when the season ends, the Rockies would get at least a prospect in return.

Brent Suter

Brent Suter is having an outstanding season for the Rockies, posting a 2.51 ERA with a 4-0 record in 33 appearances. He does bring the effective ground ball outs and his big statistic for Colorado is that he’s only given up two home runs. Add to that the ability to induce soft contact off the bat from both left- and right-handed hitters and he could get some interest.

Youth Movement

The Colorado Rockies will be sellers and all of the players mentioned above are over thirty. This organization wants to see what their younger players have to offer. Yes, this season has been a disappointment, but any kind of experience will help position players Brenton Doyle, Nolan Jones, and Ezequiel Tovar as well as pitchers Jake Bird, Justin Lawrence, and Connor Seabold for their future. The more experience they can get without pressure, the more settled they will be when called upon in future pressure situations. While losing good, experienced players are difficult decisions, the Rockies seem to have their eyes focused on the future this trade season.
