Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves selected Cam Caminiti with the 24th pick in the 2024 MLB draft. This is the Braves’ sixth straight draft with a pick in the 20s in the first round. This is fifth straight draft to see the Braves taking a pitcher.
Cam Caminiti
Cam Caminiti, a 6’2″ left-handed pitcher from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, slid in the draft from original projections. Caminiti’s two-way in the outfield and pitching stood out in high school, but his pitching upside will have him slide into full-time pitching. He committed to Louisiana State University, ranked 15th in the MLB pipeline. The 17-year-old impressed with his high upside, young age, and amazing fastball.

By the time of the draft, Caminti’s fastball rose to 98 miles per hour. Impressive enough, Cam’s command and velocity overpowered high school batters. One game, with scouts in the stands, he struck out 16 batters in a row to start the game. In his state championship game, he allowed two hits, struck out 11, and won the state championship.
Overall, Caminiti ended his year 9-0 with a 0.93 ERA on the season, striking out 119 batters in 52 2/3 innings. He also showed offensive prowess, posting a .493 batting average.
