San Francisco Giants
Major League Baseball announced its preliminary 2025 schedule for all 30 MLB clubs Thursday, including the San Francisco Giants. The 2025 Giants schedule includes classic rivalries, visits from old friends, and a new spin on a Northern California rivalry. Here are some important dates Giants fans should mark on their calendars for next season.
2025 Giants Opening Day
The 2025 campaign gets underway in the Queen City of Cincinnati. San Francisco opens up a three-game set starting March 27. On the field, the Giants will take on a Cincinnati Reds team with a young nucleus including 2024 all-stars Elly De La Cruz and Hunter Greene.
Opening Day will mark the return of outfielder Jung Hoo Lee. The Korean star showed flashes of potential this season before needing season-ending surgery in mid-May for a dislocated shoulder. San Francisco gave Lee a six-year deal worth $113 million last offseason.
Cincinnati is known to have one of the best Opening Day experiences in the league. It starts with the Findlay Market Parade just outside Great American Ballpark. The tradition is over a century old. A former Red usually serves as the grand marshal. It may be worth the trip for Giants fans.
Home Opener
The Giants return to ‘The Bay’ on Friday, April 4 against the Seattle Mariners. It is the start of a six-game homestand in front of the home crowd at Oracle Park. Giants fans hope that this can be the year they get to welcome a big free agent, with financial flexibility this offseason.
2025 Giants Division Rivals Schedule Highlights
Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers come to Oracle Park July 11-13 and September 12-14. The San Diego Padres and its star-studded lineup come to San Francisco twice for matchups on June 2-5 and again from August 11-13.
Interleague Play
Beginning in 2023, MLB tweaked its schedules, reducing divisional games and adding one series versus every team in the league. This introduced more interleague matchups.
In 2025, San Francisco will play host to Bruce Bochy’s Texas Rangers (April 25-27), Bay Area native and AL all-star Steven Kwan’s Cleveland Guardians (June 17-19), as well as visits from the Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox.
Giants in Sac Town
Slated for the Fourth of July weekend, the Giants will make their first-ever trip to Sacramento to play the Oakland Athletics. A familiar venue for homegrown players, Suttor Health Park has served as the Giants Triple-A affiliate’s home ballpark.
The Giants and A’s bid farewell to the Bay Bridge Series this summer. The most famous matchup between the pair occurred in the 1989 World Series. Oakland swept the Giants in four games but the series will forever be synonymous with the earthquake that shook the entire Bay Area.
Expect the rivalry to live on for at least a few more years with the A’s in Sacramento. Look no further than the NBA’s Warriors-Kings rivalry to see the fiery passion brought by fans still within some proximity of one another.
