Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt is the 2025 AL Manager of the Year. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced the winner on Tuesday. This is Vogt’s second straight time winning the award. Vogt joins Bobby Cox, Kevin Cash and Pat Murphy as the only managers to win the award in consecutive seasons. Murphy won the 2025 NL Manager of the Year after leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 97-65 record.

Vogt became the 2025 AL Manager of the Year by receiving 20 first-place votes. John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays came in second at 10 votes, and Dan Wilson of the Seattle Mariners got two. Vogt is the first skipper to take the honor in his first two seasons in the majors.

“Obviously, I feel honored,” he said during a Zoom call. “The job that everyone did, and I know I played a part in it, but just to overcome everything we did to win the division, get to the playoffs, I couldn’t be more proud of my players.”

The Guardians set a major league record for the largest overcome deficit to win a division. They trailed the Detroit Tigers by 15 ½ games in July but ended the season 19-4 to win the AL Central. In September, the Guardians went 20-7 to complete a 42-25 second half of the season, suitable for the best record in the majors over that respective span.

“I know how hard it was to show up every day, at times positive, and to keep pushing and to keep that smile on your face,” Vogt added. “It’s a choice every day you make when you show up to work. If you want to be in a good or bad mood.”

Ultimately, the Guardians’ year ended at the hands of the Tigers in the AL Wild Card Round. The Guardians went 88-74, winning their second consecutive AL Central Title. This helped Vogt win the 2025 AL Manager of the Year when the BBWAA handed their ballots in on the last day of the regular season.
